Great choice Jan! Of all of the WWII aircraft that there were, it's this one that is my all-time favorite. I built one of these kits several years ago and had a lot of fun with it. The only thing that I didn't like about the kit was that the main landing gear legs were a tad too short but other than that the kit went together very nicely despite the fact that I displayed it with a good number of panels opened up. Will be watching this one for sure!!

I must compliment you on your 2nd choice as well Jan. What markings are you planning to use on the "D"? BTW, The Fw 190 "D" has always been my favorite in the 190 series. Funny thing is I never knew there was an inline version of the 190 until I got back into model building around 30 years ago. The first time I walked into a model shop in San Diego, CA, I saw that Tamiya 190D on the shelf and was like "Whoa, what the heck is this?" It looked so cool with that long nose and the Tamiya Box art sealed the deal with the Red and yellow RDF band and the blue 15 (Dang those rivet counters for telling us all it needs to be a yellow 15!). Well as you might guess, the 190D was the first kit I built upon my return to the hobby.... Sorry, did not mean to start writing a book.

With the 1st Butcher Bird finished, I started and made good progress on the second 190 today. Cockpit painted and finished with the quinta set + the 2 fuselage halves painted and put together
So again I'm building something out of the ordinary, I'll be finishing this one not as a Butcher Bird, but as a RACING Bird So I'm still thinking on what colour and finish I'll be doing, but I'll keep you guys posted

Lazy Sunday-afternoon and Monday-morning, you know what that means The racer now has wings, stabilizer, a canopy with masks and an engine with cowlings Also did a first coat of primer to end my morning and with a bit of luck I'll be able to do a first session of wet-sanding tonight or tomorrow-morning. Now just to decide on what colours I'll be using when that's done...

This one is coming together QUICK Jan!! I'm very much looking forward to seeing the scheme you'll be coming up with for an air racer!! Will definitely be a first for me on that subject for a 190.

Due to work I haven't been able to continue with the build since my last update (doing late and double shifts). But with a bit of luck I'll be able to continue tomorrow evening and do some pre-shading + lay down a first coat of paint Colour-wise I'm think metallic blue & titanium or metallic red & orange, I honestly haven't decided yet and probably decide on the spot

I need some of that spongy stuff. I've been using wet paper towels and masking tape. Spongy stuff seems a lot easier.

Those are actually 4 inch square painting sponges for kids, I buy a box of 24 for around 12$ and cut it to size when I need it I've had the box for over a year and stil got 18 squares left

Love the idea! I have discovered that AK's masking putty is great for filling wheel wells.....as long as you keep it flat.

So I got my weekend off of work, so I was able to work on my Butcher Bird Pre-shading and base coat of paint are done, in a few hours I'll be able to wet-sand and then start laying down some detail with the second colour So I finally decided on metallic orange for the base and metallic red and white for details as paint scheme Now that's a very different colour scheme! Great work so far Jan! ATB Andrew

There's a paint scheme you don't see on a Fw190 everyday! I like it!!

So I decided to change my accent colour to polished metal instead of white And if I say so myself, I'm quite pleased with the result. What do you guys think? I also started to add a little bit of wear&tear details using masking tape and water (I wait for the paint to superficially dry and then use a piece of masking tape to pull of flakes of paint and clean it up with a cotton swab + water)

Oh now that is looking super sharp!
I wonder how the Dora would have done air racing in reality?

Never in a million years would I have thought that I would ever see an Fw190 as an air racer BUT......I sure like the way it looks and I like the way you think. These D-9 variants are some very sleek and fast looking birds to start with and in this livery it looks even faster.....and flashier! Just over the top and VERY cool at that. Keep it comin' Jan.

You got my attention with this build. I have a Royal 1/7th scale RC kit of the D9 and since this plane was known for speed, was contemplating the idea of marking it as an air racer, but have not had any idea of what kind of colors or markings it should have. I look forward to your ideas. Those colors you chose are creative and the pattern is pretty cool.

I look forward to your ideas. Those colors you chose are creative and the pattern is pretty cool. If you want I can take some detailed photographs of the pattern and send them to you I used a light grey primer and then metallic orange as a base coat, after masking I used metallic red and after masking again metallic polished metal. For the spinner I used Metallic copper. It's very important to use light and multiple layers of paint, if you apply to much at once, the metallic flakes will collect in the corners and details. If you need any help, just let me know
I'll probably continue work on it this weekend, to busy at work for the moment...
