...modeling. Ok, as those of you who read my thread the other day will know, I am with immediate effect losing my modeling area to make way for a kitchen extension. This is affecting me more than I thought... This will be an on and off ramble about life without the wonderful hobby of model building and how I am or am not dealing with it. Anyway, first up today was a visit from the Planning Officer, can't recall his name which I should really as I think he's going to be around a lot. Nice chap, likes his coffee sweet. We had a chat then he noticed a pile of models that I am planning to sell, he commented on how he used to enjoy building models and how he might have a go again, that really cheered me up...not Got rid of him asap and then welcomed the next visitor of the day, the Kitchen Planner. Alan by name, old but nice, he will become my arch enemy in time as what he agrees with the wife will surely drive a nail into my modeling coffin. Shortly after that the wife came home and almost immediately got into a heated discussion (argument) with me over kitchen layout, I chipped in that I don't mind as long as I get an integrated modeling area, that rather predictably fell on deaf ears! So, we are both sitting here in dead silence, at one time, I could have retreated and stuck some plastic to escape it, not any more. Wonder if the dog wants yet another walk...

Sorry to hear the trials and tribulations associated with Kitchen planning/Marriage!!! Sending some simpathy your way!!! After 17 years with my wife I think I know where she is going with stuff and then...DETOUR!! So I just yes her and every so often I disagree just to let here get mad. As for the kitchen stuff...I spent 20 years remodeling and planning kitchens!! I know this stuff all too well. 98% of the time I dealt with the woman of the house. They want to be heard and to be understood...pretty much it. After that its finding the right path to getting them to want to do it your way/the right way and having them think it was their idea!! KEY POINT...if they think its their idea (after the seed is planted) Your in!! I got my fingers crossed for you and might even try some voodoo rituals later...need to find a chicken first though!! Remember the old saying..."too many chef's in the kitchen" LOL...sound like it in a nutshell!! Hang in there!!! Keep posting your thoughts! If nothing it is a sourse of venting!!

Hey Prof, feel for ya mate. I've been there and it ain't nice. At the end of the day, it's a hobby and it's meant to be fun! Life goes on and we'll be around for a chat when you want to drop by Do what I did, 1) box up the kits you really want to keep. Stick 'em in the loft. 2) slim down the modelling kit to one toolbox. Then, when your ready.... 3) buy a New mould real nice 1/72 AFV , Revell / Dragon ? And build it on a tray You'll be amazed at what you can do and how quickly it builds the mojo.

Having a relatively modern house , the garden is fairly errr compact and is also going to be landscaped as part of the general refurb so plonking a shed in it really isn't an option.
I was informed late last night that Saturday morning we are going to look at kitchen worktops, oh the joy...

Prof-
Surrender to this and make sure she gets exactly what she wants in that kitchen!
There is nothing worse than standing in a kitchen that you aren't happy with..... and listening to the Mrs. bitch about hating it for different reasons.

Prof,
do you have any space under the stairs or anything like that? I'm not suggesting a Harry potter like experience, but I do remember an article some years back in FSM when someone showed howed they coverted a cupboard into their modelling space - I'll have a rummage around through my old FSM and see if I can find it. Might not suit your needs/available space, but maybe provide some inspiration.

I think this might be what you are referring to; Boo's cupboard under the stairs work area. modelerssocialclub.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=405&page=4Page 4 of the Mancaves thread if that doesn't work. Great inspiration! Steve

Great idea folks but no, the cupboard under the stairs is so full of junk, it's bordering on a comedy moment every time you dare open it.
Believe me I have exhausted every option available at this time.
News breaking, it appears we have a problem with our drainage! We have two drain covers out the back where the kitchen will go that don't appear on the council plans, I feel a headache coming on...

Simple answer mate, tell her the single woman up the road says you can pop round and use her spare room for your hobby ....mate of mine was having trouble getting a bit of coitus, he took my advice and told his good lady that he would have to look somewhere else and bingo!!...after the swelling around his face went down ... she came good. LMFAO ;D ;D ;D missus very confused/concerned for my general state of mind

So here we are, Friday night and the wife has gone out for the evening . Not quite as good as it seems as I have been tasked with shortlisting possible worktop suppliers ahead of tomorrow's fun packed morning hunting down a suitable one. While searching, my browser somehow took me to a site dedicated to building model helicopters which was rather nice, quite inspirational too until I realised by careless irresponsibility and snapped back to reality and continued with the job in hand. This is painful, I'm not at all happy and have resorted to lifting the lid on unstarted kits and sniffing raw styrene! Still, I can still try to content myself with a bit of research in the almost vain hope I may get the opportunity again to stick stuff. I don't have a huge, long list of 'must builds', no more than 20 or so but due to the number of parts and complexity of them I must accept they will never be built. I will continue to look around to see if I can try to find something I want to build that won't challenge the limited space I might have, that should keep me occupied for a while at least. Anyway, on the upside, I get to take my bike out on Sunday as I am competing in a local show, that's one avenue of enjoyment she hasn't closed off..............................yet

wow, this is something to read that sucks mate... I can imagine that one wants to renew the kitchen and all, but being in a relation or even being married doesn't mean that one has got everything to say, and the other one doesn't Really can't get that your needs as Boo calls it aren't met...give and take indeed. Especially when the hobby is something you enjoy and really your cup o' tea - it ain't fair that it get's taken away from you in a way... well, hope you can sort it out though, would be a shame...you can always try Micks advice ;D Cheers

So, here we are, Sunday evening and all is calm. Had a great day at the bike show today, no prizes but a fine day out with lots of eye candy . It has been a good distraction on a day when I would normally be sticking, filing and painting styrene so maybe I can do it, maybe I can be strong, maybe, just maybe I don't need to have model building in my life! Hmm, not that easy I'm sure! But it does make you wonder, denial might just be the answer... Anyway, fun week ahead, wife has a meeting with Arch Enemy #1 (Kitchen Planner) on Tuesday so I'm fully expecting the Bank Account to get spanked. I'm expecting another visit from the Planning Officer to discuss the two drains we don't / do have. Depending on whether he can drag himself off the golf course, we might also be blessed with a visit from a nice guy (John) who looks a bit like Professor Dumbledor but who will be enlisted to sort the garden. So, lots to look forward to along with listing some more kits on ebay. Dog, where are you?..............................................

Well, the wife duly disappeared off to sort the kitchen on Tuesday. Gone for nearly three hours and returned with an invoice so large that....well lets just say I could buy a hell of a lot 1/12 F1 car kits with it. Me being me and being used to checking off kit parts against the destructions, I thought it wouldn't hurt to check off what had been ordered and invoiced against the plan. After a long while deciphering what the planner had done, it transpired that two units were ordered that weren't needed and a further four units which were needed weren't mentioned at all! Following afternoon was spent with the kitchen supplier repairing what had gone wrong, all sorted now but it's grief I simply didn't need. Work surfaces sorted too which I rather like or shouldn't I say that? I think it should look rather nice. Wife very happy now and little old prof back in the good books (for now) The Council man has been quiet re the drains but as they say, no news is good news so I won't push him quite yet. So, a temporary and fragile calm has dawned (imagine the trenches, Christmas Day, WW1), no idea how long it might last but I'm glad that things are a little easier. No light on the modeling horizon but I expected that, I suppose I could assemble the kitchen units when they arrive? The only downside to all of this recent episode is affecting the farting Greyhound, it's not getting walked as much...

A farting Greyhound chaps, yep, my little Millie.
Acquired from a Greyhound Rescue charity two years ago, registered to race but never did, we think because of a rear leg iinjury while very young. Three years old now and often my only source of comfort. She doesn't fart all the time as long as you feed her the right things but she does so love her leftover Chicken Korma...

Hi Richard, good to hear from you.
Yep, its certainly tricky when you have to give over ya modeling space and it's comforting to know I'm not alone although I'm sure you will be back modeling long before me!
