OK. First one coming out of the pile of unloved/unfinished builds I've amassed. Trumpeter kit, only aftermarket is the Eduard PE seat belts. Reason it stalled - the photoetched seat belts. For some reason, I could NOT make myself bang them out. No idea why. Also, having a real issue locating a proper color for the early-war Navy "orange yellow". So yesterday, I hauled this beast out of the box and told myself "self - do the damn belts!". So I did. They had a ton of parts, and were very fiddly, and I ended up spending a lot of time on the floor with my flashlight, but they're done. Next up is to untape the fuselage and insert the pit. Wings are already attached, as there was no way to get a good tight fit without pulling from inside the fuse. Small handful of other parts to go, otherwise she's ready for the paint booth. Yellow and natural metal scheme...cake, right?

Dupes try Model Masters Acryl 4683 Chrome Yellow mixed with a bit of Red or if you can get it Gunze Sangyo H24 Orange Yellow.
Cheers, Thom

According to Urban's chart at IPMS Stockholm you should go with Gunze's H329, which is gloss so you'll have to overspray it with some flat varnish.

I should have made some caveats - acrylic only (prefereably Tamiya), and my lines of locally-accessible paints are very limited. I can get Tamiya, Model Master, aaaaand I think an entire run of Polly Scale (Floquil? Whatever it's called now).

Thom - I'm colorblind. What's a "bit of red"? 10%? 20% This is why I'm having issues with this color...can't find a solid Tamiya formula like I'm usually able to.

MM 1790 should be close, according to the same table I said before...
Edit: Model Master seems to have changed their color numbers, now it seems it is MM 1707 Chrome Yellow.

1790? I'll check it out today! I edited... Looks like MM changed their range numbers, now Chrome Yellow should be 1707.

Dupes I would go with 5% to 10% red, starting with 5% first of course. And sorry I should have mentioned I use Insignia Red MM Acryl 4714 and the 1707 is for MM Enamel so you still want to look for the MM 4683 for the Acryl.
Cheers, Thom

Hey thanks guys! Chris - those are indeed the pre-painted etch belts. That set comes with both an early and late version, so I have leftovers for the blue/gray variant still sitting in the stashola. Gary - yep, "office" is correct! Hahahhaha. Still working on my basement studio, which is taking a good chunk of my time, but I hoooope to get more time on this guy (and the rest of the queens) very shortly.

Got some time to work on the Wildcat last night. Had hoped to get the fuselage sealed up and fire a bit of primer at her - didn't pan out. Took me at least 2 hours to get the two halves buttoned up...the pit and firewall just did NOT want to fit in there. Finally got it all squeezed together and glued, but it made the fit a bit rough (I'm guessing the cross section is a bit out of round at this point!). Got a bunch more puttying and sanding in my future. Of course, the worst seam is right on top between the nose and pit. Blah.

Greetings Dupes, It's good to see a kit resurrected, especially when you've done a great job on it. If I remember correctly Bob (aka M1Carbine) had some fiddly fuselage fit issues with his Trumpy Avenger. Perhaps a Trumpy idiosyncrasy? What you've gotten done looks quite good. Remind the kit who has the opposable thumbs and the bigger brain pan. ;D Dave

It's thread resurrection day! I can't believe that this thing has been sitting on the shelf of doooom for (an additional!) two and a half years. Dang. Decided to haul it out last night, and good or bad (re: fuselage seams) it's going to get finished! I think that seam filling is my most-lacking modeling skill (it used to be decals, but I got that worked out pretty well). I don't know if it's tied in with the colorblind thing or what, but I can never tell if they're completely smooth. Putty and filler like crazy, sand like crazy, and it's a crapshoot as to whether or not it's actually right. Any good tips in that department? Anyways, here's what's headed down to the paint shop after copious amounts of Tamiya tape, blue painters tape, and a chopped up Micromark catalog:

You could always resort to the braille test...when in doubt, I use my fingertip and/or a fingernail edge to test if I really did get as smooth as the Mk 1 eyeball says it is.

Well...I need to figure out something, because they seams on this one are "imperfect" at best, it turns out!
Pushing on regardless. I want this thing off the shelf of doooooooom.
