Hi lads,
My photos seem to working ok at the minute so I thought I'd bring you up to date with what I'm building at the minute.
I'd started assembly on this a while back but had to put it on hold as Andy (Deafpanzer) needed me to build a StuG III for his Pz III GB.
Since then this Jeep had been stored in the box in several unpainted sub assemblies (as seen in the photos) along with a stack of American/Allied style stowage sent to me by Andy and a buddy here in the UK.
What's not used on this will be used on my Firefly build #2. Remember the Firefly that got launched in a mad second of sheer frustration - a good friend has now sent me exactly the same kit from his stash for a very small fee. That Will be built in the New Year now.
I'm building the Jeep as a Recon vehicle which will have a few bits of stowage and ammo boxes etc. I've got an M1 Carbine and Thompson SMG plus a few Pineapple grenades to go inside a spare helmet sat on the passenger seat. I'll also be fitting the piano wire cutter but that can wait to be fitted later as it's just a matter of time until that plastic cutter get's snapped off.
I primed it last weekend and attempted to air brush it but my ab pretty much gave out so I quickly ordered another which arrived this weekend allowing me to get a basecoat of Olive Drab (Tamiya) onto the sub assemblies. It came out as a really dark shade of Green so it makes for a perfect basecoat. I've got some Tamiya 'Sky' which is a very light lime green colour and is perfect for lighting up the dark OD shade as I've tried it.
I worked yesterday afternoon and this afternoon too (from home) so decided that apart from trying out the new ab yesterday morning to paint the basecoat od I'd wait until next weekend to add some post shading/colour modulation using the Tamiya OD and Sky combination. The rest will all be detailed (including the engine) with brushpainted Vallejo paints, AK products and Mig Pigments. Stowage will all get the same treatment and I might TRY to paint the figure too.
My one concern is the Windshields. I've looked at plenty of models of these and the good ones all have upright Windshields (how I want mine) with a masked off area that the wipers would have kept clear - the surrounding areas have all been dirtied up. The effect looks good and I hope I can pull it off. Any tips?
So, I'll be finishing the Jeep off but stretching it off as I have an approaching GB where I'll be building the Dragon Late Tiger I c/w Zim. I'm looking forward to that build (see below for box art):
Righto, here's my Jeep so far - it should look great after some Modulation to brighten it up and also fitting some shoes!
New airbrush and compressor - it's the same as my last one so I know how good it is. The compressor on my other one has gone for a service so it will be nice to have a back-up ab. The gun went too for new o-rings. I've had it for two years and it's had a lot of abuse and first I didn't know how to look after it properly so the new one will get first class treatment. I've just topped up my Vallejo paints and decided to buy some of that new Vallejo Perfect Airbrush Cleaner too.
Sorry, not much to show at the minute but work has been a killer. I've got my doube overtime shift out of the way so now that my next few weekends are clear I'm free to model as I please!
Cheers guys,
Ben
