Getting tired of doing dioramas, so I thought that I would combat this by changing eras and nationality. I thought it would be cool to display one each of the Soviet MBT models from the T-54 to the T-90 in a nearly factory fresh condtion side by side in the same case. So, here's the results of the first effort Tamiya's 1/35th T-55. I'd have started with a T-54 but right now they seem to be in short supply. There's a few things I missed here but I am not terribly concerned about them. I used plastic rod for the external tank lines, will not make that mistake again as they do not like to bend without breaking or hold their shape. The Trumpeter T-62 will be next. Comments, good or bad, are welcome as always. Regards, Mark

Nothing wrong with a clean tank...after all every vehicle started out new at some point in its life! Sounds like a cool project to produce them all in a line-up, look forward to the next installment.

Thank you all gentlemen, glad you like it. Having seen examples of youse guyses work, such comments make me feel pretty good about myself.
Alexander- Yes, this was the goal. Beating them up is one of the things I want to get away from for awhile.
Bill- Very perceptive of you altho this does not surpise me. It seems to me that everyone has forgotten that in its day the T-55 was, while not perfect, state of the art as well as a tough nut to crack. It will please me to continue this series as such rather than covered with mud or blasted to smithereens.
Dicky F- Whoops, sorry to toss a wrench into the works. If I see this GB announced before I'm done I'll have to sign up for the ones I have left to do.
Regards, Mark

LOL...no worries on the GB Mark!! There are somewhere around 70 variants in just the T34 tank. I am guessing but from T-10 to even a paper T-95 and everything in between. You already have a nice list going yourself!!! ;D

Thanks, Paul, I've looked in on the recent Soviet GB and it looks like you do things pretty well yourself. Started the Trumpy T-62 yesterday... and as advised here it is miles better than the old Tamiya offering. Glad I sprung the extra green for it. Anyone know who's got T-54's and T-90's in stock these days? Regards, Mark

Hi Mark Trumpy do a T-54 but if you can't get your hands on one, there is an old MilMod feature (mostly revised drawings which are probably more useful than pics and text.) on backdating the italeri/Esci '55. I've got a copy at home I can scan and send if you want it? P

Sure, that'd be great since no one seems to have any in stock. I did find out that Spruebrothers has the Zvezda T-90 so that won't be a problem if I move fast enough. Looks like I'll owe ya one for this.

Thanks, Bill Some progress over the last couple of days, ready for base coat. And, base coat on. MM Soviet Armor Green, which to my horror, went on glossy. So drying time will be extended, I guess. Perhaps I'll be able to resist the temptation to paint the fume extractor yellow on this one. Regards, Mark

Thanks, Gents...
Gary- At least I remembered the rubber parts of the lines on this one. The plastic rod technique seems to work better with practice.
Steve-Trumpeter may have come a long way, but they've still got a bit to go...the molding on this is superb and the detail excellent, but it suffers from flash and some pretty strong mold lines. I also find myself filing tabs and mating surfaces for fit. Minor complaints, but the Tamiya T-55 spoiled me a bit. Please do post a shot of those turrets, I may need one.
Regards, Mark

Thanks everyone Not too much done the last couple of days, truck school finals and state road test took up much of my attention. I am now the owner of an A class CDL with all endorsements except passenger. Still managed to get a few things done Some drybrushing that can't really be seen with that miserable gloss shining away. Can't wait to get a matt clear on it, it drives me nuts to look at it this way. Got all the track links cut and cleaned as well, for sure the worst part of the project. Not far from the end of this one, will post finished pics. Have to wait for Scalehobbyist and Sprue Brothers to get the next few to me. Regards, Mark

God to see another T-62 being built. Very nice so far. These just cry out to get the weathering treatment.

Thank you all again, gents The A class will be a good thing; I'll keep my RN licence as well so the plan is to work the operating room in the winter and drive truck in the summer. Keep me from getting too bored with one job, and who knows I may be able to squeeze in a month or two off a year. Anyhow, the Trumpy is finished The light weathering I've been doing almost makes me feel lazy but I still like my original theme. Can always do more later anyway. Am waiting on ScaleHobbyist for the figures This project will suffer an interruption for awhile, hunting season approaches and the freezer is nigh empty, and I have a GB project that starts next month. Still have the T-54, T-64, T-72, T-80UD, and the T-90 to do so I'll be back to this ASAP. Regards, Mark
