Hello all. I found this old kit in a dark corner at my lhs and had to have it. It's and old kit, without zimm and some poor tracks. Again from me , an out of box build besides a eduard zimm set ,and maybe a set of tracks you guy's can maybe help me with. Parts come together ok , not like the 1/48 JP from Tamiya I built , but ok. The superstructure had a slight curve bit nothing biggi. By maxmekker at 2012-08-24 Rainguard (?) had to be made. I know, It's a little out of scale. By maxmekker at 2012-08-24

Zimm going on without to much hassel, but the kit is molded somewhat wrong, so the the zimm and kit were a bit out of true some places. By maxmekker at 2012-08-23 By maxmekker at 2012-08-23 By maxmekker at 2012-08-26 On the front I had to cut and glue since the 'spikes' were molded wrong. Ready for some primer. I used some milliput on the zimm to simulate damage/mising spots, since I found it hard to tear up the PE set for that damaged look. We'll see how it turn's out. Thanks for looking so far. By maxmekker at 2012-08-30 By maxmekker at 2012-09-01 By maxmekker at 2012-09-01

Well for an old kit you certainly have done a fine job with it. One can never rule out old kits, it's up to the modeler to make the best of it, like here. She already looks good in primer and the paint will bring it to life. It's been ages since I built this kit. I've also done a couple of the Dragon kits. Lots of area on these for weathering.

Thanks all. I got a couple of thin coats on it last night so this is where is at right now. Not sure as of now how I will continue. I have a couple of write out's on some paint schemes I like. Anyone that can advise me on some tracks for this set ? maybe some tiger tracks will fit ? Thanks. Well I need feedback. I sat down, not sure what to do for a scheme. So eventually I broke out a couple og jars with green , mixed it , closed my eye and let it rip. By maxmekker at 2012-09-05 By maxmekker at 2012-09-05 By maxmekker at 2012-09-05

Pattern looks good, typical for Kursk when these beasts made their debut. As for tracks, I know that Model Kasten makes a set as does Fruil if you want workables. Are you planning something special/different for the barrel in terms of painting?

Hi Sollie, always nice to see an Elefant.
nice job so far. Trackwise: no, Tiger I tracks won't fit, but as mentioned Friul have some tracks for the Elefant. Make sure you use the tracks for the Elefant/Ferdinand though, and not the ones solely for the Ferdinand since these were a bit more narrow and weren't fitted on the Elefant.
Cheers

This is looking very nice indeed I saw one of these kits for sale recently at silly low money but left it there as I thought it would be a dog. Looks like at was a mistake ! The PE zim don't look bad under paint either, I've got some of this for a Tiger I and had my doubts but after seeing this, I think I'll give it a go

Hey sollie, beautiful job on Elefant! It's great to watch an old forgotten kit brought back to life. I'd go with the elefant tracks.

Elefant tracks should do the trick for what you need.
As for the barrel in primer from an accuracy standpoint, they weren't painted in red oxide primer like the rest of the hull. Instead they used a heat-resistant dark gray (almost black) lacquer-based primer for gun barrels. HTH!
