Spud, with the chipping fluid, like the HS you want it to air dry, then start applying the vehicle color. You don't want to let it stay dry too long or you will have probs doing the chipping. What I do is apply it with the AB and set it aside to air dry. While it's drying I clean the AB and start getting the paints ready for spraying, usually about ten minutes. You want to spray the fluid in light coats and build it up to what you desire. If you load it up and it's too weet and thick it will take forever to dry. Once you've sprayed the base color go ahead and clean the AB and put your stuff away. Then get your water and stiff brushes ready. By this time the paint has dried and is ready for chipping. I will sometimes go over the model with the hair dryr to really get it dry and somewhat cured.
Hope this helps.

ah cool rob thats fairly simple. and what about mixing both the chiping fluids, what kind of effect will that give?

Spud, by mixing the two fluids you will get a medium chipping fluid. You'll be able to get small and large chipping. This of course depends on how thick you apply the fluids. Since this is to be a somewhat fresh wreck I've started the base rusting using acrylics and the AB. No washes or pigments have been used yet. here is where she stands at the moment. I still have to add some charred paint before I continue with the tanks panzergelb paint. I spent about two hours on the base rust and charred paint effects. Still more to come. Thanks for following along fellas.

Like the rust variation so far Rob, it seems to me you have used the lighter rust tones almost as a sort of color modulation.

Thanks fellas Guy, yes and no. It looks like it but there is a reason why the brighter rust is at the top. One is that I am not sure yet where the paint will start ((LOL)). I will be adding bright and dark rust streaks as well as normal streaking. Just something I had seen in a color pic of a real tank. Also if you look at the color pic of the Cologne Panther it looks streaked. Pin washes, filters, streaks etc etc etc still to come...........and maybe camo too

absolutely marvallous work Rob. Watching with interest as usual. Hope to be able to try out these techniques this year on a Brummbär build of mine.
Like the 'naked' rust allready. I know you mentioned the use of your colors maybe elsewhere but I'll ask it anyway: which acrylic and other colors did you use here for the rust?
Cheers

ok ok Spud, here you go bro. Camo added, just a simple three tone scheme using Tamiya acrylics. The chipping and brunt paint process has been started. The camo area still needs weathering with washes, filter etc. I tried something diff to get the chipping but it didn't work so there is no need for those pics or explanation of the process. Failure was due to my lack of patience and wanting to rush this. I will try it again when there is more time. Thanks for checking her out.

Comes with two desk top lights at 5100K each, a cube- box thing and 4 different color backdrops. whoop whoop better pics from now on and less work for me ;D

All this talk of a knocked out JT has got me a bit worried.. ;D Awesome stuff, Rob! I look forward to anything you put on the bench!! The grey background looks heaps better, though the others just looked a bit overexposed, I see Ken has brought it back a bit with software. Great stuff mate, waiting for more!! Cheers JT (the other JT)

Thanks gents, and Ken. Yep it was a bit overdone with the white. The raw pic was more gray, similar to what Ken did. One of the biggest probs with bright rust and white background is that the rust will be too bright. I'm waiting for my new set up to arrive, then we'll see how the new pics look. Yep for mags it's mainly white they prefer. Right now I use white, blue and black poster board from the art store and the dollar store.
