Here's the next project on the smudgewerks bench, Trumpeter's new Grizzly late version. Straight out of the box it looks a nice kit however I am going to attempt to add the LAST armour package that was seen on most late grizzles in Bosnia. For info on the LAST package see this link, www.army-guide.com/eng/product3190.htmlMy plan is not to add the hexagonal blocks but just the kevlar outer covering. This will be made from rolled magic sculpt and should be enough to suggest the tiles underneath. As you can see the covering softens the profile of the vehicle quite a lot and makes for a different model in the end, hopefully!

Smart wagon! Lucky Model were doing these quite cheap a few weeks ago and was tempted, but like everyone else, got tons of stuff in the stash and watching the pennies!
Will watch with interest.

Not much for you as I have been working out the running order for applying the magic sculpt on the model however I have made a start and have altered the engine grills by firstly sanding down the lip around the grills then removing part of each grill to more closely replicate what is seen on the real thing. A comparison can be seen here, Nothing that a few minutes and a sharp scalpel won't sort out. I have also glued the hull halves together and will be filling and sanding off some details. I plan to add the kevlar covers before anything else goes onto the hull. That way I don't have to trim around parts and can get a nice finish.

Devil's always in the details and the little things like that lip are what make a build stand out IMHO. Nice work!

Thanks guys, here is a little bit more for you. I have now started adding the kevlar covering and as I said I have used magic sculpt which I have rolled out into thin sheets using a wooden dowel and plenty of johnsons baby powder. The baby powder stops the magic sculpt from sticking to the work surface and tools. I have managed to get nice thin sheets using this method. I then trimmed the sheets roughly to shape and placed on the model. Once in place further trimming can be done with a knife or scalpel. I find dipping the blade in water helps get a neat cut. Some smoothing out with a brush and water helps level off the covering. Once it's dry I can refine any details easily. So far it's going nicely and I think it looks very close to the real thing. cheers Pete

Thanks guys I am glad you like it so far! more now and I have completed all the main areas on the hull, Some minor trimming and cleaning up needs to be done then I need to add kevlar to the rear panel and all the doors and hatches. I think that the turret also had the armour added although from my references it's hard to tell. More research is needed here. Pete

Miss the smell of baby powder! Excellent attention to the details! I admit I haven't heard about magic sculpt before so I have to learn more about this stuff. Thanks for the tip!

Nicely done Pete...although Dicky's comments about pastry is making me hungry! You've got a nice effect with this, it has just enough overlap and slight variation along the edges. Ought to look great once painted.
