makes sense to me carl. ok so start with a gloss coat. how thin should the oils be. airbrush thin, just dotted on the surface?
sorry to hijack the thread.

Joe , this pic could answer your questions . You can see how thinned the oils are . Fairly thin . I use a 3/8 th inch wide soft bristled brush and covered the entire surface . Let it set/dry for a half hr. I dipped that same brush in mineral spirits , wipped it almost dry . and then started pulling off the oil. This will take a few times to master . You dont want a wet brush . Just enough thinner to lift off some of the oils not all of it. Keep wiping the brush clean on a rag . When it gets too dry to lift the oils offthen wetit in the thinner and dry it on the rag .You'll find there is a certain dry/wetness of the brush that works best . A too wet brush makes a mess and lifts off too much oils and dry brush wont do a thing . Here's an example of how thinned the oils are . This is the entire side covered with a layer of artist oil burnt umber. Here i removed oils with a fairly wet brush . After it dried from the previouse pic i went over it with a almost dry brush to blend the streaks . Joe , i let this dry for a few days and then sprayed another coat of Future over it to seal the oils . They'll wipe off with the other weathering otherwise . I applied another pin wash of oils over the Future . Pics of it next .

I'm gettin closer to completion on this one . I sprayed a flat coat over the pin wash . I made up the flat coat from a mixture of Future and Tamiya flat base , thinned with Windex. Its just on the verge of being overly flat coated ........that is it is starting to look dusty .But that look is good on this model .
