Italeri 1/35th 508 CM COLONIALE FINISHED 7/2/13

Continuing my obsession with all things small and especially staff cars at the moment this is the next model on the smudgewerks bench,



This is an all new kit from italeri and on the face of it looks rather nice.







It's only two sprunes and generally the detail is quite nice however there is quite a lot of flash and ejector pin knockouts to deal with as well as some depressions which need to be filled. This is most evident on the doors. The canvas hood also has a very strange texture moulded on it which I think is italeri's attempt to depict rough canvas.





Some detail looks quite soft and unrefined but with careful work an interesting and unusual model can be produced. I am looking forwards to the challenge!

Cheers guys it is an interesting vehicle, Gary it is an Italian vehicle so Axis. The Germans used it too during the war. Well I started building straight after posting my initial thread last night and bugger me it's almost finished! The kit simply flew together which for me and italeri kits is a rarity that's for sure! However the plastic needs a lot of clean up and test fitting and boy is the plastic soft too.

The wheels are a bit of a disappointment as they do not fit well and once you sand the seam you loose most of the tread pattern!













The kit does have a decent engine and detail on the firewall if you want to display with the bonnet open and I do love the "FIAT" hub caps very neat. I will be gluing the chassis to the bodywork before painting so I can get it all straight.

Wow that was Fast and it looks great Smudge, i wouldn't worry about the tires being bald as they do wear

Neat little kit. I agree with Spud. If it is weathered up and looking well used, the tires may just look right in place.

Thanks guys yep the tyres will be muddied up anyway. Got some primer on this morning so this afternoon I got some paint on. The kit has four options two Italian, a noth african vehicle and a Balkans one and two German schemes. I went for the Balkans version as I was taken by the use of two different greens for the camo. I always find it difficult to get a suitable match for italeri colours but in the end went for Mr Hobby H303 Green FS34102 and H309 Green FS34079. H303 was sprayed on first and a little white added and misted over then the camo was sprayed using the H309.

I am quite taken by the look of the camo it's subtle but different. Details have been picked out using vallejo colours and for the canvas I have used strangely enough vallejo panzer aces canvas!













So far so good I have seen a rather nice figure to go with the car so will be ordering that soon.

Ha ha! when I'm in the zone I'm in deep! More for you and I have now added some chipping, decals and a couple of filters plus a pin wash which has really toned down the overall look. It's now ready for matt varnish then pigments etc. I think the canvas roof will benefit from pigments especially with it's rough texture

Cheers lads glad you approve, Nothing really done to the model today however as is my want I like to display my models with at least one figure so have been scouring the web for one. In the end I went for this rather interesting Wolf figure. I must say I like his goatie especially!
