As I build mostly wingy things I, usually, don’t get to see you target -er- Tank guys builds. So why am I here? Just looking at a great “how it can be done"build. Which causes me to think, that a bit of dirt-rust-scratches etc. on a model can look mighty good.......Hmmmm may have to give this stuff a try.

LOL...Thank you Steve! I like hearing that! Anything can be smacked around a bit...even those wingy-things!! Rust can be a bit problematic on the aluminum but there is 'always a way to skin a cat'!! I will keep my eye open for something maybe? LOL!! Here is where I am at on this. I was going to pop some sand down tonight, but I need to take care of a few things first. But I thought I would share a little base preparation with you. Some XPS (extruded polystyrene, poster board and a nice piece of Ash!! Time for a little fitting.... Foam has been sanded and glued and a little stain on the wood. With some luck, I will get a good chunk of this done tomorrow in between snow removal from the Blizzard!! Thanks for stopping by!!!

Hey John!!
Yeah, still have power so far. Still snowing like crazy. Steve is pretty much one the cape...they are getting hammered with hurricane force winds, snow, rain, cats and dogs...living together...wait...sorry bout that, had a Ghost Busters moment there! Damn thing is stalling off the coast right on top of Steve, Rob , Ken and just about anyone else down at the bottom of the state there!!

Looks like Nemo got you strapped real good to your bench today... looking great already!!! That is just slightly disturbing to say the least....Ohhh, you meant the storm!!! Actually got this together the other day, but with the b-ball games and the apocalyptic storm of the Milena...this little "stay in the house and take a break" is nice!! Thanks BTW! I should have spent more time on this today...was in the photo booth taking a shed-load of pics of some items coming up soon! I might need two or three more of these storms to catch up completely!!

And that is how it's done. Base layout is perfect broo. Will look better once the sand is on her. But it will be a bit until you get to that eh...snow blowing first...lol

Luigi - Thanks Buddy!! LOL...you never know, a couple of drinks, some soft music....wait!! No!! LOL!!!
Thanks Boss!! Yeah might be a little while this morning. Got up later than usual and playing a bit of Drag-a$$ having some coffee...soon though!!! You too BTW...you got your fair share last night as well!! Watch the back now!!
Thanks Leon!!! I think I must be dyslexic as I read what you said as "sand first, snow anytime"!!! I know, I know...work first play later!! LOL!!! Still freaking snowing though!!! I might try an modify a roof torch I have and make a flame thrower...start melting it all...not very effective....but real FUN!!

T., that is one SWEET piece of ASH! Do you cut and shape your own bases or purchase somewhere? Looking forward to the next installment of messin' with ASH. Gary

Why thank you Gary...I do think most modellers would enjoy a good piece of Ash from time to time!! I make up my own pieces...more the fact I enjoy it rather than saving a little $$$! I have almost an endless supply of MDF, Pine and various hardwoods. Most of the hardwoods come from a couple of friends that had stuff laying around. Hit it with the router and a nice shapely piece of Ash!

Moving forward.... As you can see still a little wet in the picture, hence the lighter spots. My apologies for the bench shots here. Sometime this can be a messy process...sometime, not so much. Oh well. A little paint on the brickwork is next, more weathering and then Some dusting....again! Real close I suppose! As always thank for playing along!!

Thanks Rob!! Really looking forward to W&W....the first show of the year and we get to hang out and shoot the poo!! Thinking we should still have a trial run on what we were planning for AMPS!! Figure a Tammy would fit the bill....but which one!!! Leon & Andy....Thanks guys! I appreciate the encouraging words!! As for the mixture, you are correct Andy, Sand...LOL!! The medium for the mix is actually the unmixed version of joint compound. SheetRock Brand sell 3 different types, 90 minute, 45 minute and a 20 minute, in 10lb bags for next to nothing as you figure a 10lb bag will last me 5 or more years!! Somewhere between regular joint compound and plaster. I am using the 45 minute...modeling, not rushing...LOL!! Just add water to the consistency you like, which I go to the runny side because I am adding the sand. The sand is a bit dark for the Iraqi desert but since the base color of the plaster is white, it lightens the sand color nicely. I can then adjust the coloring as I like with pigs, washes or even AB painting. If you add pigs to the sand to tint to whatever color you want. I mixed up a small batch and placed it around the perimeter of the opening for the tank, then carefully placed the tank.

Awesome base, T. Next time I'll go to a DiY shop I'll take a look and search for something similar.
