I've been working on a creepy clown-like mouth/spider monster. Here's an abridged version of progress so far (more WIP shots available on Facebook). I would love to have this cast as a multi-part kit. If there's enough interest for me to justify it (even if I just break even!) I'd love to make that a reality. Mouth and clown collar: Exploratory sketches: Started on the legs: Leg work: Progress so far: Currently thinking six legs, two arms. I would love to go mad with eight legs (with shoes), two little arms (as mandibles) and several antenna with bell like tips (like a jesters hat) but realise that if I go OTT with the number of components that the mould making costs will be crazy.

Thanks guys! I'm trying to resist the temptation to go OTT with this project but it's tough! The "everything but the kitchen sink" approach is proving way too appealing!

Way too cool! Is the one that makes little kit pieces disappear when they land on the carpet?

Interesting. What material are you using to sculpt it?

Interesting. What material are you using to sculpt it? Armature uses copper wire and florist wire. Putties used so far are Superfine Milliput, Procreate and Green Stuff (Kneadatite).

Thank you! Here is a quick sketch just brainstorming ideas and textures. There will be a small brood of baby spiders on its belly.

Thanks guys! Here's tonight's progress: Slow but getting there. Have started a tiny spider as practice (a few of these will sit under the belly) but it's not turning out great...

Cheers guys! Spent more time on the legs: The front legs have come on the most, now with the frilly bits and first lot of point bits!

Cheers guys! Here's a little more progress. REALLY hoping to get this done in time for Salute in three weeks... Legs are coming along... ...and I'm starting to think of how it can piece together before I sculpt the torso:

Been getting some more work done on the back legs. Hopefully have most of the donkey work over with soon. Can't wait to piece it together.

It may not look like much but I spent about 90 minutes today on the legs. That time was spent rearranging corks, positioning and a little sculpting. I'd like to think the donkey work for the legs is now finally over with. I'll be able to add the details to the legs and start working on the torso. It's only a matter of time before I can work on the fittings which will fix the legs to the torso. You'll see that I've also been working on the arms. A quick assembly shot:

Thanks Boots! The Puppet Monster is temporarily on the back burner. I'll be returning it it once the Mouth Monster is complete in two weeks. Drapery is one of my (many) weak points and with a torso as big as the Puppet I'm fairly daunted! I also want to make sure I do it justice! I've learned a lot from the Mouth Monster sculpt so (hopefully) my confidence and ability has been boosted enough for me to rise to the challenge. Wish me luck!
Regarding the Mouth Monster the plan is to have it complete and ready for casting (in resin) by the 20th April. I'll be meeting my caster at Salute 2013 so will give him the components in person. Depending on how much the mould and casts cost me I'll hopefully have enough to warrant me getting accompanying art prints to go with the package. I can work on the illustration while I wait for casting!

Thanks! Here's a quick mockup featuring the arms: I've been working on the ball & socket joints for the legs. I'll soon be able to start work on texturing the body. I've also started work on a tongue.
