You probably would be safer with Carl and the two guard dogs.

Hey Andy, Damn! That is looking sweet! When that is painted up and weathered it's going to kick butt so hard! Excellent work! I'm glad to see you using your new razor saw - mine has had loads of use now, brilliant things! How did I ever mangage without one? I'm with you re. the whole messy Resin clean up - it's a nightmare! Keep the updates coming! Ben

Bones- Only two guard dogs? Am afraid its not enough. LOL The wife knows about the special package but she didn't bother to ask what was it. Guess I am safe for now... Mac- Thanks mate! It will be fun painting the stowage... Ben- Thanks pal! Oops! Am I allowed to use that word 'pal'? LOL Did you notice part of the my new razor saw snapped off? I shouldn't have used it on thick block of resin... lesson learned. Good thing I have two spare blades... Anthony- Wondering how many different paint bottles I will use on the stowage... it is going to be fun! Thanks buddy!

Mr Sniper- Thanks! I thought my wife was the only one who likes to tease??? LOL Yes you were very close... posting pictures now! Bill- Looks like I am OK... wife was not thrilled then after looking at my early birthday gift she was cool. My instinct is telling me she will be crumpy again when the credit card bill arrives. She fully is aware how expensive those helmets are and we agreed I got me a very good deal. Oops, I have said it aloud... helmet? Biggest addition... most expensive purchase I ever have made for my WWII militaria collection. $350. Good condition. Missing one of chin straps. The linear string is not correct but can be replaced. Size 66cm... large... perfect for my big head. For sure you will see me not buying more kits or militaria stuff for a while...

Anthony- Wondering how many different paint bottles I will use on the stowage... it is going to be fun! Thanks buddy! I didn't notice that snapped bit yesterday matey! You should be okay on Resin - like a Hacksaw just let the saw blade do the work and don't go mad trying to bust through your material in uber quick time! They aren't just 'spare blades Andy. You can use the two supplied screws to put two or three of the blades next to each other (use the longer screw if needs be). That way you have a stronger saw blade! I hope it's easy enough to source cheap spares? No doubt I'll need spares at some point? Oh, militaria eh? This is bad - by the end of the year you'll have a de-activated Luger and MG42 mounted on the wall - not to mention the Browning .30cal! I'd love some stuff, I nearly bought a de-act WWII Thompson with stick mag but I'd be happy with the helmet! Do you mind if I ask how many $'s it set you back? I'd still like to find my Grandads lost war stuff as he had soooo much Ben

Nice relic brings back memories of my childhood when a ocasional kid would have one of those helmets for playing war games as kids never thinking they would ever be worth anything.

I still have the German WW2 helmet that my parents brought back from Germany when my father was stationed there in the 70's. Someone had converted it into a flower pot (no joke!) complete with drain holes drilled into the sides in a perforated pattern and am unsure just how it came to be in our family's possession beyond that. They had painted it a nice pretty gold color and then it got repainted in black by someone, possibly my brother.

Guys- LATEST NEWS regarding the wife... she is pretty cool now. She do understand it was a damn good deal that I couldn't turn down. Showed her several internet sites selling very same helmet for $550 to $1000 or much higher. So its a decent investment... far better than what you get for buying stocks nowadays. Ben- De-activated Lugar and M42? Man, now you are tempting me. I had an opportunity to buy a real Luger for $2000 but my wife said NO WAY! We don't have that kind of money but figured she will let me off the hook when I bough the helmet for $350... pretty good deal. You better go and find Grandpa's lost stash. I'd love to buy some from you! LOL Dupes- WOW! Guess its too late but its great for anybody to read this in case they want to build a duck too! Thank you so much for letting me know. Bones sent me great manuals burned on CD and they were very helpful too. Gary- Thanks man! Bet it will look real good on you too! Hell, I am not going to let you paint it pink too! No, she's cool... she knew I always wanted one for a long time. And I can always sell it for much more if we really need money but I am afraid she knows she will have to take it from my dead hands by now. I am on mission to find me a good WWII US helmet for my Christmas. Plenty of time... six months away, right? LOL Nate- Another reason for you guys to come here for a cook out. Looks like I will be very busy this summer so maybe early fall when it is much cooler? Bones- LOL! No kidding... I think I saw one when I was very young too. Wondering how much they will cost later when they become more scarce? Jeremy- Thanks buddy! Yes the seller's dad was part of post WWII US occupying troop arriving Germany in 1946. He managed to collect and ship back home great stuff. Helmet was one of stuff he managed to grab before Germany got rid during Denazification period removing anything that had swastika on. He tried to sell it on eBay but it was taken down within minutes... fortunately I saw it before it was removed as I had him listed as my favorite seller. So I contacted him directly and he offered me a good deal that I couldn't resist. Now are you going to sell me that cool bayonet too? LOLOLOL Dicky- Man, I can't wait to visit Nebraska!!! Now the wife and boys want to visit the Spam museum in Minnesota... Kenny-Excellent tip... I will take that advise as I figured it worked well for you too? Bill- Flower pot?!?!? Maybe you can have it professionally restored? LOL You got a picture of that?

I am not helmet expert but one the helmet you have I'm betting the larger holes were the rivet holes for the liner and the small holes are vents for air circulation in the desert or other hot climates where those dark helmets were like a small oven on your head.

Hi guys, Andy, this is a German pot I got from a friend of mine, she found it on her parents attic. She wanted to throw it away but I saved it ! There are no markings on it. *Andy, I collect WWII memorabilia too.

You could be right Bones, but even if it wasn't modified by someone along the way and used as-is, it's last tour of duty was as a flower pot...the ultimate in 'swords into plowshares' I guess.

Not exactly a glorious end but that's what they say pounded into plowshares. Maybe a more practical end seeing how the war ended for the owner.
