Thanks Bill....weathering the wheels tonight, the weathering powers make a real mess so this one goes kinda slow.

I look at model building like fine cooking, it is done slowly when you want a true gourmet meal and slow model building make better models.

Just a note to show I'm still plugging away at this one, hopefully I'll have an update this week-end...a quite long delay I know. Most of the track links are cleaned up but after washing the plastic dust off and inspecting them, I have a few I missed, so I'll do those Saturday, The links are an old Modelkasten Non-workable set so quite a bit of scrapping, sanding to get them ready a real PITA! But almost there.... Also finished weathering the wheels but I will post pics when the tracks are done too....yeeha! Paul

So I finished up the track links and then....OH NO! They didn't fit around the wheels...they're too loose, in other words in order for them to fit, there would be too many links, so all the work for nothing on this model...
But I can still use the rubber band tracks, not happy with that but I don't want to sink more money in this "much to long to complete" project.
The problem is, I didn't allow the idler wheel to be adjusted, in my quest to model a more accurate T-34 I sealed the idler axle....DOH...I kinda knew this would be an issue. I covered over the little hole with the screw to tighten the axle...so sorry for no photos.
I'll get back to modelling soon...

Been there and done that is all I can say, I usually will cut off the offending part and move it to fit and then weather and texture as needed to disguise the learning lesson spot into a complete vehicle.

Hi Bones, Thanks for the reply.... In this case I can't remove the Idler here since there's not enough left of the mount besides the wheel would have to overlap the first roadwheel position to correct it, so I've weathered up the kit tracks instead. The Idler's mounted to a thick brass rod so cutting it would be impossible... I will post some photos soon of where I'm at, taking too long but oh well. Paul

Update...Film at Eleven! Well, after a much too long break, I finally have an update re: weathering... If you've followed so far I had to use the kit tracks on this one but I think they came out ok? I installed the tracks and weathered the rest of the model... Pics: They still look yellowish even after adjusting for white balance, I need better lighting. My camera really highlights the red, the models not so red in real life, sorry... For the weathering I used a set of "Doc Watsons" weathering powers, always thought that was kinda a funny name and some oil pin washes first and kinda blended in the powers...here and there to fade the paint, same colors as used on the wheels and tracks. Used oil stains on the exhausts. It sustained some battle damage during all the processes....the 2 rear turret lift rings, and the headlight went to the carpet monster... I can at least replace the lift rings. Still to do: 1 highlights 2 scratches, wear around crew areas 3 overall dust coat 4 stowage (should've done this before upper weathering) 5 crew I'm getting there slowly so I apologize for the snale pace with this one I know everyone likes photos... I do too! Anyway thanks for looking and any feedback, criticisms etc welcome as long as you're nice to me! Later, Paul

One thing even at a snails pace you are moving forward. my self I often move at a turtles pace so slow just seems to happen. Have to say Cowabunga with that carpet monster eating parts, fortunately for model builders with active hungry carpet monsters a lot of those vehicles seemed to loose their lights in the battles. The subject is looking good and I await your next snail step.

Nice to see this one moving again Paul! Better lighting will help your camera 'see' colors better for sure. Get yourself a couple of desk lamps or similar arrangement and pair it up with a light-tent arrangement and you're set. Here's a neat little DIY way to do it if you're so inclined: digital-photography-school.com/how-to-make-a-inexpensive-light-tent

Thanks for the comments guys....much appreciated! Not sure how I will approach it yet Bill but thanks for the link, I probably will get some polarizing film to help with the glare too. Thanks again, Paul

Hi Guys,
I did a few pin washes the other night so I should have a few more photos this week end, I want to wrap this one up soon. I'm working on the stowage at this point.
I also noticed the weathering powers look better after a few days on the model, they kinda settle in and look much better.
Thanks for the support!
Paul
