Bones thank you.Glad you like it. Bill thanks, the test were well worth it .Got a question for you.I want to try and put on a light coat of dust.Should i seal this with a dull coat and do a dust coat and then seal with a dull coat again?Any suggestions.

I have always wondered about sealing dust coats also because they tend to dribble dust in my display case forever.

Great build buddy, modern armour is difficult to make look convincing due to the paints used but I think you've pulled it off buddy

Very nice job, Leon I can't give you any advice on how and when to seal it, as I tend not to use any gloss or dull coat on my armor builds...

Leon - seal every time yer happy with something..... the weathering looks very nice, subtle and not overdone. Are you going to paint the dust i.e. Mist coat of Buff or similar or use pigments? IMHO the paint route is easier as it holds it's colour but needs practise to get the right consistency and fineness, I tend to find pigs can seriously darken (or disappear completely) after sealing (with lacquer or fixer) but paint remains constant - up to you fella What if you are using powder from pastels?

The only caveat I'll add to sealing dust effects is that it can cause them to disappear or become muted depending on how you applied them in the first place. This is due to the fact that the 'dullcote' achieves it's dulling effect via fine-grain talcum-powder suspended in the lacquer that scatters the light and produces a dull finish. If you apply some other type of 'fixer' to the pigments, then it will probably not be as affected. As with anything, test and see how it works and you should be ok Leon!

Leon - seal every time yer happy with something..... the weathering looks very nice, subtle and not overdone. Are you going to paint the dust i.e. Mist coat of Buff or similar or use pigments? IMHO the paint route is easier as it holds it's colour but needs practise to get the right consistency and fineness, I tend to find pigs can seriously darken (or disappear completely) after sealing (with lacquer or fixer) but paint remains constant - up to you fella Personally I'm using pigments in the first instance only on the lower hull and tracks, as they're usefull to build up a little consistency. Same effect could be achieved with mixing plaster into the color. For the dust on the upper hull I would use oil and enamel washes. You see what you get the very moment they're painted on and are easier to correct in the aftermath. Pigments are very hard to predict for the unexperienced. They look different when wet and dry and change color and disappear when sealed with clear cote. Sven Frisch, one of the modellers I admire most and editor of the "art of Modelling" in Germany told me once, the pigment fixer is nothing but a highly diluted clear cote. Makes sense! The only difference between pastels and pigments is the binder that allows the pastels to be pressed into sticks. Cheers! Tobi

Advin
An interesting fact on the pastels/pigments, I use pastels because they are easy to get at the local Art Store whereas the closest hobby shop is 120 miles away.
