Hi guys,
Woohoo! We get our annual bonus at work in our paypacket this month so some new purchases had to be made - I mean, it would be rude not to!
At the minute I'm a big fan of these new Dragon releases with their pre-moulded Zim. I love the look of Zim but am not keen on the idea of doing it myself so these kits are ideal for me. I've built their latest Zimmed Elefant and recently bought their 6655 Waffle-Zimmed StuG G III which is a stunning kit.
So, when I clapped eyes on their Latest Jagdpanther version with Zim I was really pleased. I was even more pleased when I went to sit down and order the Resin Upgrade stuff for my Bronco Comet from Steve at Armour Models who I use for my Friuls and other metal bits here in the UK to see that he's started stocking Dragon kits and AK products!
I like to see what people are buying and enjoy reading these posts so I thought I'd show you all. Apart from the JP kit I ordered Friuls for both this kit and my up and coming Comet build. Some AK washes and some Friul blemishing fluid. Some metal RB shackles and 2 x 2 metre antennae. I also asked Steve to throw in a Jagdpanther Barrel when I placed the order but was very surprised to find a Tiger II Porsche Turret Barrel included. I thought he'd given me the wrong barrel but having looked at the instructions it sems that there are two types of barrel included with this JP - the later 'stepped' style and this one without the step. Sure enough the kit part is exactly the same so I learnt something today!
"The early JP was equipped with the long barrelled 88mm Pak 43/3 L/71 gun. Jagdpanthers were equipped with two types of 88mm gun; early type gun was one piece long barrelled 88mm Pak 43/3 L/71 gun (monobloc), while the later type gun consisted of two parts. Two-piece gun was introduced in May of 1944."
Here's a few photos:
Kit box-art and Panther Friuls:
Instructions for the barrel - note the two types included in the kit:
Marking/Paint options - as I'm using the early style barrel I'll be going with the tank shown on the bottom row in the middle (#314) with the tri-tonal cammo:
Everything else - the Slimy Grime is going to be used on that Wading Muffler Pz.III M and the Dark Brown wash for Green Vehicles will make a nice pin wash colour for my Comet:
Thanks for looking guys,
I had my head set on building my Comet next but this JP kit looks like too much fun to pass up! My old Tamiya one was built when I was very much a newbie so I'll be replacing that with this - the Tamiya one will become a test-bed but the commander figurethat I painted for it looks excellent with wired-up headphones etc. so I'm going to pinch him, tart him up a bit and use him on this I think.
Take care,
Ben
