Bones, I keep waiting for someone to tackle Fantasque's scheme but have yet to see it done. Wild Bill 76
I'm with you it would make a very unique paint job and fit in with the name Fantastic the only draw back would be the builder would have to by a good landscape artist.

Nice model choice....those French tank camos are cool looking.
This tank however had a major weakness, the large engine screen was on the left lower hull and became a huge bullseye for German gunners.
Fast builder!

That is interesting because if you go to the reference site that Wild Bill 76 posted there are a number of vehicles with a crippling hit right at that point.

Thanks guys, this is gonna be a nice thread for Char B1 enthousiasts ! Great reference pics ! I think I'll stick to the soft edge camo for now, but the kit builds so fast I'd like to go for another one in the future !

Your the artist so you must be the one to select the subject and we are sure it will be good. That kit does go together fast so we will be looking for another, I was thinking a war damaged one since there are a lot of pictures of disabled vehicles around would fit in for a second example.

That large area on the left side is actually not a screen or intake. It's the radiator! Even more of a vulnerability considering...definitely one more to chalk up to the 'what were they thinking' category of design position/elements. I second Bone's vote for AG to do Fatasque...you know you want to!

Hello friends, I'm still thinking about which camo scheme to pick. However, the build goes smooth and all credits for that go to Tamiya, it keeps surprising me how simple it falls together !

Driver's hatch was assembled completely the wrong way ! Luckily I didn't use much glue so correcting it was a piece of cake ! Now it looks OK, tomorrow more ! Blackadder's Baldrick said it regularly : STOOPIDYSTOOPIDYSTOOPID !

It certainly is way out there and would make an interesting finish but as a failed artist I can tell you that a pattern like that at 1:1 would be one thing to paint but at 1:35 a near impossibility except for an artist that works under a very expensive set of surgical loupes to be able to get that kind of miniature landscape detail at the smaller scale. When I first saw it on the link you gave it looked much simpler than what it really was on the site that ArmorGuy later found.

Hi guys, the Fantasque theme is impressive and a real challenge to do, the kit however is the German "Beute" version, with a couple of additions made by the Germans. I'm still thinking what camo to pick. Will I go for a soft three tone camouflage pattern or just a German grey color ? The boxart shows the three tone camo scheme and it's quite appealing I believe. Those are worries for later, first I have to finish the build ! I guarantee there will be built more of this type of French tank in the future, the French camo schemes are most spectacular. This pic shows a German addition to the Char B1 Bis : ONLY for reference purposes ! Best regards ! AG

Very nice clean building G. I had been thinking about building this kit for a few years now, just might have to grab me one.
Looking forward to the painting, whatever scheme you go with.

Yep the Germans couldn't resist making their own mods to these beasts. The on you've pointed out is the major one along with the tools and other odds and ends to the gear layout.

It looks like they wanted a little more head room when loading that big gun.

Now that is a possibility or the pre 1935 helmets were rather bulky but the pickelhaube would be a problem in any vehicle then again could be they had bigger heads than the French.

Believe it or not, that area was added to protect the base of the rotating turret. Without that block there, a well placed shot could jam the turret at a minimum or do much worse depending on the size of the round involved. It's not an extension of the compartment below...although I bet the crew would've appreciated a little more room in there regardless.

Its good to have someone in the know about the little changes, gaining knowledge about history is one of the things I love about building AFV models. I have to say that is one thick block.
