Hello friends, the Ford FAT diorama "Forest Dump" was done so now it's time to combine the finishing of my diorama "The Rusty Admiral" with a new build. In fact I didn't know which kit to pick, a Stug or this beast. Finally I took Tamiya's Char B1 Bis out of the stash. I have to be honest, I'm quite into Tamiya now. The Ford tractor was a Tamiya's golden oldie but up to these days it's a great model to build. The BT-7 ditto ! Let's make it official by starting with the box art : It's an impressive model, a steel dinosaur, with heavy tracks and powerful guns. Of course there will be camouflage involved. Tell me if I made a good choice fellas ! Best regards and I wish you welcome in my new thread ! AG.

Correct Luigi, it was the best tank at that moment (Mai '40), it had high firepower and heavy armor, its running gear was hard to destroy too.

It is an excellent kit for the early 1940 war period that could have been better used by the French but was not probably due to not having knowledge of where Armor was going to take warfare at the time. I have heard a lot of good comments about the kit when it first hit the streets and I'm sure when you do your magic on it that it will be even better.

It's a fun kit to build...wait to you build the tracks! They snap together and are durable...you'll wish all tracks were like that. Looking forward to watching this one come together. I built the standard French version so this one will be a little different. There are a few things to tweak/fix that still apply though if you're so inclined. You can see my build log here: www.bpmodels.net/Model/Album/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=9

That was a very good build and lesson on how to get a good finish on a B1 Bis.

I've got one of these in the works now, myself. Just started the first paint coat. It'll be fun to see how yours turns out. I did go with an RB metal barrel set, but they weren't really needed.

A nice selection! This really has the reputation of being a jewel to be build. Only two hours to get this far? Awesome! I for myself need about an hour to open the box only... Will follow this one!

Dicky, the French were into special camo patterns in those days, they even painted a forest on one ! You're right, there's not that much to improbe I'm afraid, maybe some minor additions in white plastic...
Bones, thanks, we'll see what I make of it !
TRM, the paint slapping sessions are for the near future mate, I want to get started as soon as possible with that part !
Leon, OK mate, it's good to have you here !
Bill, thank you so much, this will be really helpful, congrats on your Char, it looks terrific !
Gary, thank you, this is encouraging !
Thomas, thanks ! You're very welcome !

The problem is, my good friend, I don't know this Char well, so reference pics will be more than just welcome. I've already created a map for them and each day their number is growing.

That sure is a complete index one of the things that stand out is it appears that most Bis I are painted a single color and the multi color camo jobs are limited in number. There is one vehicle that stands out and must have had a real artist paint their vehicle and that is the "Fabtasque" that job is amazing.

Holy cow! You are on roll... great choice!!! Have same kit in stash but French only. Almost had it built last year for a GB but was sidetracked to do a commission build.

Correct Luigi, it was the best tank at that moment (Mai '40), it had high firepower and heavy armor, its running gear was hard to destroy too. armor and penetration wise it was the best indeed...but with just place for the commander in the turret they were asking for trouble, especially vs the Germans with their good communication, bold actions (thanks Mr. Guderian!) and 4 or 5 crews. And luck of course. I do like the look of those Frenchies, got something special about it. Defo looking forward how you turn this into a little gem again Mister Guy ^^ Cheers
