They were scraped ?? Unbelievable !!!!!!!! Yeah, both guns, at least one rail transport, and all four schleppers. Don't know what someone was thinking. Now if you want to see one you have to go to Moscow.

Most people don't know that there were a pair of these at Aberdeen once upon a time. Unfortunately, the powers that be decided they were more valuable as scrap metal. Here's a few pics of them before that happened.
As an American I hate to say this but we do not have a very high regard for history which I assume is from our Balkanized citizenry that do not share a common history. It would appear that many AFV exhibits in military hands may be in jeopardy as our leaders see other things more warm and fuzzy to spend money on.

Thanks fellas.
yep at least two went to the US. I know LOKI was badly damaged on it's rail transport. No one knows what the one was that got scrapped. One is in Kubinka (Zui), and the two 040 early running gear were used for parts and scapped by the Germans. One was never completed.
This one will be the early Thor before switching to the 54cm barrel. The Trumpy kit will be a scrap yard build of LOKI after the war when it was removed from the rails and dumped at a scrap yard.

The gray colored parts are the Dragon kit, and the yellow is the Trumpy kit pasts. A huge difference in the detailing between the two kits. Wow, you aren't kidding! I had no idea that Trumpeter outclassed DML so badly in their Morsers. I know what you mean about a lot of parts...add some rail cars to the mix too!

Dan I am tempted to get that scrapyard going, but still need to collect a lot of stuff before I start it.
Come on John, you know you want to....lol. It's a very good kit. Which do you have ? the one with the rail cars or without ?
Dupes, yeah huge diff in the kits. The Dragon one was released ten years ago and the Trumpy is newer. In the pic above I haven't added much to the cradles yet.Not much more to the Dragon cradle, but the Trumpy one has awesome detailing.
Gents and Ladies, looks like if I can get some time today I may get a lot more done...and just might pull out the Trumpy one too.

Rob - do the kits offer the option on how to the suspension is put together (in travel or firing position)?

ah good question. The Dragon kit has molded on suspension arms and looks to be in travel...bummer. The Trumpy kit I have gives two lower hull versions, all with separate parts allowing for firing and travel modes. The firing mode, suspension up, was used when being railed...BTW. I'll try to get some pics of the Trumpy hull once I actually start the hull. You can see in the pics the Dragon molded on arms. I actually thought about using the Trumpy 040 suspension on the Dragon kit...but then I would have to do a lot of work on the rest of the model...not what I wanted to do really.

Geez, between the detailing differences and the suspension choices, they make it hard not to lean towards choosing the Trumpeter kit if you're going to build one of these things.

The parts count in the Trumpeter kits are much higher vs. the Dragon kits as well and when these first came out the Trumpeter kit had a higher price point to it as well as a result. All the reviews indicated it was the more highly detailed of the two even though both had various accuracy issues. Trumpeter's kit provides a lot more options while DML's doesn't. Making some good progress on this one Rob, looking forward to more!

Hiya fellas. Thanks for all the comments. Well the building part is just about done. Will get some pics up later today. Still need to decide on tracks..Dragon,Trumpy or Fruils. Will leave that decision for later and depending on how the painting and weathering is turning out.

Thanks G and jackwagon. As far as paint goes, it may have to wait for dryer days. I have learned over the past couple years that when it's hot and humid painting just won't work. I plan on using the LC panzer gray 3 color set for this so maybe these will spray better with the humidity. Will have to see what happens. Big question is where do I put this monster !!! I have next to no room for finished models and this one takes enough room for three.

Tony, the Trumpy kit is a gem. They give both hull versions in the kit I have. TONS of parts including two metal rounds, one 54cm and one 60cm. Figured you'd like a big gun like this one..lol
That's all ....Carl,spud and Luigi. No paint for a while.
Took down a couple of shelf queen KV tanks I had started last year, might bang one out until it's time to paint Thor.

Really looking good painting is going to be the interesting part. I see that you are keeping the same parts separate for painting, it is the only Axis kit I have ever built and I really felt it was fun to build with all the walkways and railings it still went together well.

Just found this one and caught up on it Rob. Nice tidy work so far:) Great discussion/education for me as well:). Very cool subject and I can't wait to see what you do with it in the paint/weathering stages.
