Dan, Andy - I'm looking forward to my winter holiday starting Mid-December. I want this build finished within this year. Nevertheless I will have to travel to Italy again one last time and I'll be on duty at the local Christmas market selling wine punch next weekend. End of the year is always crazy... Thx Pete, I found there has to be more to the HS method than rust chips and worn white-wash. It's not the end result, just another layer to build up the effect. Cheers, Tobi

No, not at all Bruce. It's surprisingly easy, all you have to do is cut some Tamiya Masking Tape to the shape you want and then paint a thin line along it's side. After pulling it off the rust effects were painted randomly with some Lifecolor Dark Rust, and this was immediately blended with a little tap water before dry. Cheers, Tobi

Those who followed the build from the beginning might remember that I wasn't sure about this detail which I did only copy from the Hobby Boss kit. I can now confirm this is correct and I also learned the purpose of the little box. It's called brush bin, for gun cleaning I suppose. Cheers, Tobi

Always good to know where to store your brushes! Just ask Dicky, it's because he didn't know where to store them that he now no longer needs one.

Yesterday I worked on the hull for the whole day, carefully removing the dust layer, partly according to photos, partly with artistic license. My goal is to depict a vehicle that could be found in the barracks, not the field, so I don't want too much dirt on the model. On the other hand I need to cover up my bad priming job, where some areas became gritty during airbrushing, because it was so hot on that day so the color dried to quickly! Next I want to seal the achieved effects with a clear cote and make some "inverse" boot and fingerprints with the base colors, as if the surface had been cleaned from dust there. Then some washings with NATO rain-marks, maybe a little dirt dry brushing. Forgot anything before I start the final stage with detail painting? Should I make her more clean? As always, thoughts and comments welcome. Cheers, Tobi

Pete, Andy, Dicky, Paul, Bill - Thank you chaps, then I'm going to proceed like intended, to get this war, err - model ended before X-mas. I really shouldn't tell this, but when I started it in late April I figured I would be done by August! Next kit has to be an easy one - said that I'm thinking of something tamiyaesque... Cheers, Tobi

Got an Allied-Axis issue on the Marder III M with some very elaborate camo scheme! Always despised the vehicle because of being so inconceivable ugly in my eyes, but with a bad weather tarp from MIG and that paint job it should look great! Tobi PS: got the Tamiya Chally I and a Trample-deer Chally II with Dozerblade in my stash

I started bringing the pieces together. But first I continued the dust job by lightly dry-brushing all the gritty areas with some French Tanker Highlights from the Vallejo Panzer Aces range in an attempt to integrate my bad primer job into the painting and finish. Originally my intention was not to make the model too dirty, but well. I'll never prime or paint a model again if the temperature is too hot! Next I mixed a wash from some AK colors close to the Tamiya Buff I’d used at the beginning. With that I made some streaks on vertical and dust accumulations on horizontal surfaces. The announced “inverted” boot and hand-prints were done again with acrylic oils, prepared on a piece of cardboard. Dark wash from Mig was used as a pin wash in some selected areas, mainly to accentuate panel lines. To tell the truth the paint job looked shitty to me at that point, because of a glossy sheen in several areas and the ever present graininess. A flat coating from the airbrush with Alclad Klear unified everything and it was then when I thought for the first time, the model might be not as f** up as I felt all the time. I think I relatively managed to make the gritty areas look realistically dirty and thus like it was intended… Progress now is slow but steady. Someone else might manage to finish the model from here within a day, but I’m really taking my time on this, making a lot of breaks and constantly looking through my references for weathering effects, like on the lower edge of the front fenders. Hey, I’m in my holidays! You can see in the pictures that some further details now have been finally attached, mainly to the turret. There’s still a lot of details and detail painting missing. In the turret basket I added a tarpaulin over the camo net, made from Green Stuff. It was painted with Revell Yellow Olive, weathered with some Mig pigments and sealed with their Pigment Fixer. This also served to make the tarp looking rubberized, with a light sheen. One has to know about the Pigment Fixer that it is, theoretically spoken, a highly diluted gloss coat. Thus it tends to darken the underlying paint and when applied generously it also produces an almost unnotable sheen. Perfect to depict this kind of material, especially when the surroundings are dead flat. What I really like is how my self-made plugs look on the model. I believe they add a great deal of realism now they're in place. In my infinite stupidty I managed to loose the drivers head pad on the turret side, so I was forced to make a replacement from scratch. An original part from another Revell kit in my stash served as a template. Next I will make some random wet speckles on the model, more detail painting and then I’m nearing the point where it’s time to unmask and get to the final assembly stage! Cheers, Tobi

That's pure eye candy Tobi. Just love the effects the dust and grime looks spot on and the boot prints just add to the realism. The tarp although a small piece looks like the real thing and really adds to the whole model as do the plugs which I suspect most people would miss. Top stuff!

HOLLY POOP! What else can I say....Look so good I want to eat it! Can I? Keep this up Tobi! Phil. I'd love to make your wish come true Phil, but it's a kitty not a cookie, and a smelly one, too! Caught a cold over the weekend as a X-mas gift from two of my fellas (don't know which one ). Too bad, could be finished right now... But if you like this so far I promise you will love the results that came after this! Cheers and Merry X-mas, Tobi
