I like the subtle effects on the upper hull! Regarding lower hull I'm with Dicky, though I think you havn't gone that far yet, as the outer wheels don't show any weathering at all.
Cheers, Tobi

Evening fellas.Got two questions to ask.1st-I want to do some light chipping on the Scorpion but not sure what color to use.Any suggestions would be very helpful.2nd-I was thinking about adding a little rust to the weld beads on the turret.Any comments or suggestions on this. You guys were a great help on the M109 so i could use your input on this.BTW ordered the Fruills today or as T called them fruit loops.

Hi Leon,
for the chipping I see two possibilities. After 2-3 general filters of sandgrey or any similar color you can do chipping with some pure white. This will stand out enough to make it look like the surface has been rubbed clean again from dirt (fingerprints on hatches are a nice touch). For deeper scratches just take the base color of UK-green. There are so many British armor experts around here, one will now the appropiate color.
When you are going to the artist shop for oils: there are also acrylic oils available. These are water-soluble and can be mixed with the Vallejos (or any acrylic paint) if you prefer that. You can't work on them as long as on true oils, but long enough plus I find them very handy, especially for figure painting!
Cheers, Tobi

It's looking good Leon. Out of curiosity, what are you using to apply the pigments? I'm assuming you're applying them wet?

Post by Leon on Aug 8, 2013 20:59:30 GMT -5
Thanks Bill.I'm not using pigments,i am using the AK acrylic dust paint AK 723.The more i look at the pics i don't really like how dark the lower hull looks.I may remove it and do some thin coats like on the wheels and turret.

|
|
Post by wbill76 on Aug 9, 2013 20:30:01 GMT -5
Ah, that makes sense. Thin coats will give you a more controllable result and allow you to adjust or build up the effect better vs. a single thick coat. Play around with it until you get the look you're after.

Very nice adjustment Leon! If you want to create some streaking effect to simulate rain marks, take a square tip brush lightly dampened with thinner (appropriate for the type of paint you used for the wash of course) and use it to smooth out or streak the dust a bit. Use the angle/direction of the hull plates to determine which direction you pull the brush in and you'll get the desired result. Give it a whirl, with a little practice it can deliver some very nice weathering results.

Sweet!! The end game this will show nicely!! I little getting used to one the assembly but you will get into a rhythm! As for cleaning them...Acetone works nicely to get of the casting junk and oils off. If the fume are to much for ya...fingernail polish remover or a good ole warm soapy water won't hurt!
