I love it Leon! That brings back some memories. The camo is referred to as MERDC "Gray Desert". This was used by the Marines at 29 Palms, CA, and the Army at Fort Irwin, CA. sites.google.com/site/merdccamo/home/merdc-photos-1MERDC is no longer used. It gave way to the NATO three color and plain sand color currently used. Some Army M1's were painted in a "desert" version of NATO Three color. They substituted sand for the green and added the black and brown pattern. Those as I recall were only fielded at Ft Irwin. One is a gate guard here in Las Vegas at the NG Armory. G

Oh I only remember the good things now. Way to old to to dwell on the bad.
My first impression of 29 Palms though wasn't all that good back then. We flew from Camp LeJeune, NC to 29 Palms, CA in a C130. Landed in the desert and hit the ground running as the exercise began as soon as we arrived. My radioman was about 6'8" tall and 250lbs. so I'm constantly on my tip toes as I'm on the net (cannot see around the big dork either LOL). We deplane down the back ramp and head into the desert with me on the radio co ordinating the company. My first thought was "Darn turbo jet exhausts are HOT." Next time I had a moment to think I realized I'm a good half mile from the plane and it's still HOT! Welcome to 29 Palms California, it truly earned the nickname "29 Stumps".

Nice build! Of course, this makes me want to try to build all of the different M60 schemes out there - desert, MERDC, NATO,...?

Oh my!
I love it as I am seeing it for the first time and had to have been on vacation to have missed it! Nothing like American Armor and the 60 series had it!
Nice work!

Nice end result with this one Leon,- sorry for not commenting sooner! Not one I have in the stash at the moment- but maybe someday when I've removed as bit more of the structural loading from the attic P
