Boots, Boo, thanks guys Bodywork is now underway, quite a bit of prep due to both mold seam removal and the sheer expanse of styrene you need to clean and prime. Colour is now underway too, I really don't like the correct flat beige colour these were produced in but I wanted to retain the decals so I decided on Zero paints LeMans Sunset which is actually meant for Nissans but should go well with the decs. My sincere thanks to Mark (Boo) for his tireless, good natured responses to my many PMs on the subject of colours, thank you buddy.Out at charity events today so no update planned until next week sometime. Cheers guys.

Aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh, primer. The vast expanse of greyness. It is a beautiful thing. Nice base color choice too It should really come to life when you clear it. Are you planning a second color Prof?

Thanks as always chaps, most kind.
Jeff, no mate, no second colour, I will leave the kit decals to provide necessary contrast...I hope!
Robbo, Nissan LeMans Sunset by Zero Paints mate and I think I will need a second jar there so much to cover!

Hi Mence,
Thanks for the info on the enamel paint, which seller do you use?
The start of the paint looks great, very smooth, this colour will look really smart with a 2k clear coat over the top.
A word of warning about zero paints, If you feel you are going to need a second bottle, then it is worth getting it sooner rather than later as I have found in the past that there can be slight colour differences between batches, If I think I'm going to need more than one, I always order it at the start and then mix the two bottles together before starting. this alleviates any colour differences later on in the painting stages, which may only show up after the clear coat, and then it is too late.
Best Regards,
Keith.

Hi guys, thank you. Keith, here's a link to a product the seller has on ebay. linkHe ships very quickly, I normally wait until I have a need for a few bottles before I order. Thanks for the heads up on the Zero Paint, it never crossed my mind! I guess it makes sense if you think about it. Before I read your thread I had a crack at painting more of the bodywork, it's gonna be tight but I think I have enough...just.

That Zero stuff is matt finish isn't it? Do you just klear coat it?

You got it, Zero paints are designed to go on matt Robbo.
They are compatible with a number of different clear coats such as Tamiya and of course their own range of clear coats.
I have never used Klear with it but I see no reason why it shouldn't work.
I will probably be using Zero 2 part clear.

Chaps, small progress update for you. Engine is now in. Only problem is there are no positive location points on the frame Only solution is to dry fit the primary drive case to the engine as that in turn locates on the gearbox, that way you can get the distance between engine and gearbox correct before the glue sets. After that, rear shock absorbers were assembled and fitted along with the rear crash bars. Thanks one and all.

Chaps. DF, thanks fella, wish it was 1:1 ! Keith, thank you, progress is slow on this sort of thing as you well know. DP, good job I live in a nice part of the South of England then! Boo, cheers buddy, they're real fun and rather addictive... Luigi, thanks, she's looking ok, better than I hoped. Gary, Dave, your comments make me wonder about a 1:6 dio, hmmm Dicky, cheers geeza, not anywhere near as good as Keith, Boo or Boots but I'm happy with it. Steve, most kind mate, thank you. CB, not good either... Jeff, appreciate the kind words fella. Bill, thanks, it's a tight fit in there, the challenge is getting it in without damaging the paint! Right, similar pics to yesterday although they represent a fairly big step forward. Primary drive case, starter motor, foot controls, side stand, ignition coil and leads, spare plug holder and front crash bars all make an appearance. The front crash bar is metal and very heavy, care needed to get it to line up. Thank you again.

Thank you Dicky, very kind.
Rear bars are styrene but the rear shock shrouds are metal. It's hard to line up and you do need to bend it slightly so everything ties together.

I can imagine the weight this will have when done Mence given the size of that front crash bar. Nice work pulling together the latest round of components.

Thank you again guys, really is wonderful to have your support on this. Things are going to slow a bit as there is quite a long curing time for the clear coat, in the meantime, I will find some other bits and pieces to do to her to keep things rolling.

I'm sure Boo, Keith and Boots would disagree and be rightly proud of having this on their benches...yer a worthy cornerpost of the Gleam Team fella More great additions fella...are the rear crash bars metal too? I'd be more than proud to have this on my bench. This Genre of modelling does take a little more time to come together because of the process' involved but the results are definitely worth the wait as you have shown here. Stunning work as always Mence. Looking forward to seeing the paint with its Clear coat on. Best Regards Keith
