Chaps. Another bit of loft insulation dusted off for your enjoyment. Inside, Tamiya's usual shoddy presentation... I will be back soon with a 'what's in the box' but before I start anything, I offer my heartfelt thanks to Mark (Boo) for his good natured, helpful and supportive responses to my many PMs on this subject. Back soon, in the meantime, welcoming all interested parties...

I'm looking forward to seeing you put this one together Mence. Tamiya kits always look so enticing when you first take the lid off don't they?
Best Regards

T, giddying up here, looking forward to it.
Keith, you're right, on the big scale stuff, Tamiya have got the presentation nailed, it's always a great experience opening the box for the first time!

Chaps.
CB, the Kawasaki Z1300 was produced by Tamiya in two guises, naked so to speak and a fully faired touring version, the naked one you can still find but at a price, the touring version is difficult..and expensive to find.
Hey Bill, thank you for joining me, I'm looking forward to it too, it taking a lot of courage to get it out of the loft and build it but that's what they're for I guess!
Had a good browse through the sprues last night and as you might well expect from Tamiya's big scale offerings, flash free, lovely detail, no obvious pin marks and high quality chrome.
Got friends round for a bite to eat tonight so hangover permitting, will try to update Saturday.

Hey guys.
DP, never too late mate, always welcome and if you're bringing beer, even more welcome!
Dave, loving your ride mate, I was torn Between a HD or a Beemer, rightly or wrongly I went for the Beemer...
Dogfish, hi buddy, welcome, I hope it will be fun, I really do!
Boo, hi good buddy, glad to have you along in at least a consultative capacity, hope it will turn out ok, paint ordered this morning.
Jeff, hello fella, glad to have you along on another of my rambles.
Feeling a bit under the weather at the moment (too much wine), hope to kick off with a bit of frame action tomorrow...

Don't know how I missed this, good fun here. Prof I owned that very model, two tone sand/beige and all. She was a 80 cubic inch Shovelhead that was probably the best running of all the old Harleys I ever had or rode. Real free wheeling fast reving v twin. I sold it to a fellow policeman and have regretted it ever since. I bought a new 1995 R100RT and have been loyal to BMW since. I've had a Moto Guzzi, a Ducati, and a Honda in the interim but my old airhead boxer is my go to bike. G

Hello G, welcome aboard. Nice to find somebody who owned one in the box art colour although mine will be subtly altered. I have yet to properly ride a Harley and up until recently I had been a two-stroke rider, mostly classic stuff. My new trusty steed is a 1200c or Chromehead as they are referred to. Oil cooled 1170 flat twin, most probably lacks the true grunt of a Harley but it pulls well enough for me. Good to see another 'boxer boy' on the forum! Back soon chaps...

Right, a small start has been made. The frame comes in two halves and it appears each half has a very prominent mold seam running all the way round it This will take a little while to sort but its worth doing as on a scale as big as this it's very obvious if you don't! Files, scalpels and sanding sticks at the ready, we're off.

Hello Mence, Personally I don't care what other people ride, just as long as they enjoy what they ride. I like all kinds of motorcycles. If I could have a stable of them I would....unfortunately I have yet to achieve some form of corporate sponsorship. By the by gentlemen, you have posted some great pics of your steeds. Enough of my rambling......on with the build! Dave

Chaps. Dave, I'm with you mate, I'm way to old to condemn people for what they ride and I too would have loads of bikes if I could but a combination of finances and space make that something I can only dream of! Here we go, the first 26 parts have found a home, this represents about 85% of the basic frame components. As mentioned earlier in the thread, mold seams were everywhere but I'm not going to complain, this kit is the original release from the 80s so you can't expect perfection? Most seams have bean dealt with and then the two halves clamped together trapping 6 soft vinyl parts which will ultimately serve to locate the tank and fork yolks (trees). Same sort of thing for the swinging arm (rear fork) which has vinyl parts inside to give a positive location for the pivots. The large central upright serves as a seat post as well as a brace and when I get there will have a spring inside it so that the saddle is actually sprung, nice touch! The more eagle eyed may be able to see from the first slightly out of focus pic (sorry) that the lower rear part of the frame isn't glued yet, this is to accommodate the centre stand which itself is undergoing seam removal, that will make an appearance later once I have got the frame painted. Just before I go, quick word about the kit, if you've never stuck your head in the box of one of Tamiya's big scale kits, do it, for their age, they are still right up there.
