Knocked out the rest of the masking work tonight! Apart from some very minor stuff (prop stripes, drop tank mounts and so on) principal painting is wrapped!

Update! With the main paint done, and no fussing with decals on this build (!), I turned next to salt fading. Generally, I'm a fan of this technique. But it went a bit off the rails on the Frank. First...spray things down with warm water with just a bit of dish soap to cut the surface tension. Apply salt from a grinder (you want different, random sized crystals), then use a hairdryer to evaporate the water. Next, use VERY THIN PAINT, and spray a light coat over everything. If you overdo it, it'll look funny. I've found going first with a lighter color, typically a gray-brown, works nicely. I use Gunze Mr. Color because Tamiya, for some reason, absorbs the salt and so you get these weird little discs wherever salt is present. Enamels work well, too. Once you finish the coat, rinse the salt away and gasp in horror as your build gets "salt fog": Never fear. Just put down more water, more salt, and load up a darker mix (dark gray-brown-blackish). DO NOT SPILL IT ON YOUR AIRCRAFT'S WING. As diluted as the paint was, it basically acted like acid, eating into the paint and plastic beneath, but not doing jack to the salt. Lovely. Scrounging about, I remasked and resprayed. But my attempts to blend the now-clean area with the rest failed and so the starboard meatball looks substantially dirtier. After all that, I sealed everything with some Gunze Semi-Gloss Clear. Next up, oil dot filtering. I'm using several oils for this build - transparent white, yellow ochre, Naples yellow, Prussian green, olive green, and I believe the color is "Green Bean Gray" or something. It's literally a grayish pea color. Awesome for this kind of work. I managed to get the wings and stabs done tonight. Hopefully the tonal differences between them and the fuselage are relatively apparent. More to come...

Wrapped up the oil filtering. Pretty pleased with how it tossed some variation into that topside green. Now I get to give it a few days to set up. Also, for kicks, the drop tanks.

Creeping toward the finish line. After our epic 6+" of rain last night, it wasn't raining tonight so I chanced some Gunze Flat on smaller parts and, what the hey, the cowl too. The Flory washes I prefer for panel lines grab far too well into flats, so the main airframe will get a gloss or semi-gloss prior to that stage (after a few more days for the oils to set a bit more. Anyway, apart from some oil stains the cowl is more or less a wrap.

Final flat coat (Gunze Flat Clear) sprayed tonight, and the legs installed. Letting it sit overnight for the epoxy to cure.

Lots of home-stretchy fun tonight... - Cowl + Engine installed - Wing cannons installed - Flaps installed - Gear doors installed - Wing lights installed on underside - Drop tanks installed (the two smaller anti-sway brackets are short...grr...have an idea to fix, but PITA) - Exhaust stains painted using a thinned mix of Tamiya Black, Khaki, NATO Black and NATO Brown At this rate, I'm guessing the Frank will be wrapping this weekend...probably Sunday.

Another stunner from Doogs yet again! Nice save with the accident, by the way! Wouldn't have noticed if you hadn't pointed it out. Cheers, Sam
