Because I don't have enough projects going on... I've had a bug to do this one for a while now. Finally diving in. The kit seat is pretty bad. Eduard to the rescue! Also added some details to the cockpit - mix of Eduard and lead wiring - and drilled out the 20mm Ho-5 cannons. Next...painted all the cockpit elements up with Alclad Duraluminum. I'll be using this as a base for a chipped and weathered cockpit.

wow that is sweet. You have this thing for 1/32 kits eh.. That I do! Actually sold/selling off a massive chunk of my 1/48 stash. Keeping a few gems (Tamiya Jugs and Corsairs, etc), but moving the rest. I just love the presence that 1/32 has.

Wow, thanks all!
Got the IP mounted last night. Just have to paint/install the back end of the guns and I'll be about ready to close things up.

On to the Homare engine. Hasegawa's done a pretty creditable job here. The backs of the cylinder banks are hollow, but who cares since you can't see them anyway. I actually prefer this approach, since you get wraparound detail and don't have to fuss with gluing front and rear bank halves. The ignition ring is too fine to drill out, but I was able to jab some holes for the wiring to glue into with my trusty old airbrush needle. Paint is as follows: - Cylinders: Alclad Magnesium - Crankcase and main block: Alclad Semi-Matte Aluminum - Ignition ring: Gunze Super Metallic Chrome Silver (I'm in LOVE with this stuff) I'm planning some fairly heavy weathering...just not to that point yet.

The Homare wired and weathered. Mostly. Still have some oil stains I want to add.

The crank case is much smoother in this one than in the Macchi. Great job on this radial too

Jeff - the HK engines are fantastic. Best radials I've worked with. Though I haven't played with the Tamiya Zero or Corsair...

Been focused on getting the two 109s off the bench...but now it's back to the Hayate! Mostly little stuff last night...getting the fuselage aft of the cockpit opening painted black (topped with highly thinned Gunze Engine Gray for some fade effect) and the cowl interior and leading edge light box painted in Nakajima Cockpit Green (per kit instructions). The engine sits rather deep in the cowl, so there should be lots of opportunity for dirtying up the cowl interior with oil spatters and so on. Hopefully tonight we'll be getting the wings and fuselage joined up.
