Here is another SDF macross resin kit that has sat neglected on my bench for years. This kit was mastered by a very talented bloke by the name of John Moscato, and is a 1/72 scale representation of a recon pod for the Zentran army (the bad guys). Here is some line art: About five years ago I managed to almost complete this kit but stalled when I go the dome on the front (missing in the photo) Here you can see the semi transparent kit item: I had tried plung molding a replacement but the dome is large enough to make the material too thin to work with on the edges. So last year sometime I bit the bullet and bought (amongst other things) a plastruct sphere. Whilst rummaging around for something else I found this sphere and had a sudden urge to get moving. So the first this I did was file off the molded on nipple featured on one of the hemisperes: Set to with a razor saw and some wet and dry: Test fit: The I polished her up with some micromesh and dipped it in Future: I liked how the profile is much more shallow as well: Now look, I've gone and ruined years of perfectly good procrastination with just an hour's worth of work! I shouldn't think it would take much to complete the last few touches and finish it off. Cheers, Brett T

Have a soft spot for the Robotech/Macross stuff, nice replacement for the pod! You have indeed destroyed a well-honed procrastination regimen however and the model-gods will have to be appeased. Go quickly and burn some spare sprue to avoid destruction!

Ditto Bill - love the Macross stuff, especially the ones that got ripped off for the Battletech game. MAN don't I wish I could build my entire lance in one consistent scale!

Thanks guys. It has been satisfying to get these bench queens finished.
Although I haven't posted any updates, I have been chipping away. Unfortunately I didn't clear coat the decals before shelving the kit, and they had yellowed on the parts. So I have had the parts sitting on a windowsill, trying to bleach the yellow out. I have now applied a coat of future ready for the next stage.

So I haven't been posting much lately as I am pretty busy with a two year old and a six month old. But I do manage to get some bench time. What finally knocked me into gear was being banned without notice from the Macross World Forums by a 12 year old moderator. Strange that for a community that cries out for build threads that they so readily boot people out. Nothing lost though, because trust me you haven't experienced a pointless thread until you see the a bunch of fan boys arguing over the the characteristics of imaginary transforming planes - bleh. Things like that just remind me again how great MSC is, so I've decided to give the finger to MW by dragging all of my Macross stuff out of moth balls and post it here. I started up again by adding some dark grey chips and scratched to the main pod, and bit of oil paint discolouration. I still have to get on and do the legs but that's coming up. Man is it ever hard to gather up momentum for a stalled build. Anyone got any some advice on that? Cheers, Brett T

Ha ha. I was sticking up for a mate of mine who owns Scale Solutions, after someone posted a build of a recast of one of his kits. Some bush lawyer got involved and wanted to argue about IP rights, and how garage kit manufacturers can't complain when somebody rips of their patterns. I launched into how much they complain about the lack of kits of the more esoteric Macross stuff while bagging Wayne about getting cranky about recasts.
Boom I was banned in a matter of hours - but only after all my posts were edited to make it look like I was the forums biggest fan. That forum had become full of pandering suck holes anyway.

Scale Solutions? I have some of his Star Wars kits (the TIE variants). They're nice kits for sure. What else does he produce?

I'm not sure as he has removed most of the listings from his site and now sells via eBay. From memory he had a Super Star Destroyer, Star Destroyer, Medical Frigate and Mon Calamari cruiser in small scale. The Moldy Crow, a Hoth rebel blaster tower in various scales as well the the Tie variants.
Wayne also produced a derelict spaceship from Aliens, a 1/8000 Nupetiet-Vergnitzs (the subject of the thread that got me banned) and some other greeblie stuff.

I wish I had my Tactical pod Glaug in my stash again, but sold it long time ago. Sad because I love the design of the two-leged-freaks to superdetail the hell out of them. This thing here looks great till now. What plans do you have for it?
And I would love to see the derelict Alien ship! Any links??

Well first off I'm glad your here and not there and second your work is great. Now I can come out of hiding because I love this stuff. Have been doing Macross kits since college. You have inspired me to back to work on my Tomahawk so I will post it up and we can keep each other going. Terry

The scale is great for adding tons of different figures. I can imagine some assassin troops are going to attack this thing. Damn, again new ideas for that, the Regult looks really good. And do not have trouble of thinking to overdo paintwork in this scale! When I think of some fantasy figures which looks great in their paintjob but it is always most the time "out of scale", but nessessary for the overall view. Most painters "overdo" the painting of a figure, that´s nothing new. But it looks great!

Looking good and not overdone at all from here Brett. These battle pods were always some of the cooler Robotech designs IMHO. Just have to remember the size of their operators inside!

I made a little more progress. Manly painted chips and scratches - thing is I have to keep in mind this is 1/72 scale. As it is some if this weathering is a bit over done. I mocked it up quickly just to get an overall feel. Still a while to go but getting there. Brett Ok this looks GREAT!

I'm building a bade for this at the moment with a crushed RAV 4 and maybe some infantry taking cover if I can find the right ones. It needs something to infer a sense of scale. Brett

Thanks guys. It'll be a while until I get back to the bench. Its the 100th anniversary of the ANZACs landing at Gallipoli this weekend (25th). Plus I have been fighting off a cold, but I am getting a bit of momentum behind this.
Cheers,
Brett

As per usual I have been spreading my limited time across far too many projects. None the less I have made a bit of progress on the base. The building wall is foam core with broken plaster and random gravel etc as building rubble. I want to add some elements to busy up the rubble and then I'll be onto paint. Cheers, Brett
