Chaps. Flying update as I'm heading out the door. Engine underway. Crankcase and gearbox moulded in two halves vertically as on the real thing. Coated in Matt Black Enamel. Really nice touch are the eight metal studs to secure the barrels at a later stage, lovely stuff. Thanks guys.

Wow, that's a real crank case... It uses the same assembling method of the real one. The cylinders are fixed by 4 long screws with a nut on top.

Chaps. DP, am I reading this right? You, a two wheeler, oh my! Dicky, ta, going ok, at this time it's shaping up as an 18" build. As the project progresses, the Tamiya paint pot will appear some more. DF7, expensive mate for sure but there will be deals, there always is! Luigi, yes buddy, Tamiya's engineering abilities in full swing. Right, today's update is more engine stuff. It's found its home in the frame, held up front by one long shaft with a nut on each end and two socket head screws. In addition, the oil tank and ignition coil are fitted with more screws. Bolt heads on the crank cases are all individual, the transmission cover is pushed into place and held with poly caps. Timing cover is screwed on. Thanks all.

Thanks Steve, long time since I enjoyed modelling this much. Big Boys and big toys always work But the H-D looks good, I think that I order some some real nuts and bolts for replacing the screws when my kit arrived.

Making good progress Mence, every time I see you work on one of these I keep thinking it's only a matter of time before you fire one up and take it for a ride.

Falling into place nicely Mece. Here's a question. Obviously this kit has a lot of detail but does it come with pistons and rods to go in the jugs?

Hey guys, thank you, going ok so far although I am fast reaching a point where I will need to halt it for a short time.
Ron, replacing the screws is a good idea but to be fair to Tamiya, all the screws so far are in places where they won't be seen, they include in the kit some tiny socket head (Allen) screws for the more visible fixings, either that or threaded bolt with nuts on or small bolts.
Jeff, no mate, no engine internals but I guess it wouldn't be too difficult to scratch some pistons etc. if you wanted to depict a maintenance dio? A bit beyond someone as simple as me but that Mr Francis will knock you up a set in five minutes!
Back tomorrow with a small update on the hydraulics...

Sounds good to me, off course if the screws are not visible there no need for replacing them.

Hi Mence,
This looks to be going together very nicely indeed in your usual clean and concise way. There are some nice touches in these new large scale tamiya kits.
Looking forward to some more.
Best Regards
Keith.

Chaps.
Ron, it looks like a lot are hidden which should cut down on the amount of work you need to put in.
Keith, hi buddy, thanks. It's going good so far, plain sailing. Yes, there are some neat touches right through this kit, I will try to cover the best bits in the build.
Sorry, promised update hasn't appeared, simply ran out of time today, will try harder and get something up tomorrow.

Hey chaps, many thanks.
Dicky, you will certainly be disappointed, in terms of overall engineering, quality and fit, so far it's faultless.
Scheduled update will be slightly delayed due to a bit of an issue with the build (my fault, not the kit), back soon.

Hey Dicky, you know me better than the wife! not sure that's a good thing? Anyhoo, long overdue update lurches into view. Rear wheel has its fat rubber popped on with the foam inner installed first. Not entirely sure what purpose the foam inner serves, only thing that springs to mind is to make the tyre bead sit snugly on the rim? Wheel then has the various other parts fitted to it, brake disc, caliper, sprocket, rubber drive belt etc. Now all I need to do is grow another pair of hands so I can install it in the frame! Thanks chaps.

Chaps, thank you.
Dicky, an exact match to the HD colour is not available so I have improvised. I picked up a jar of Zero Paints Mica Silver which I hope will prove to be a suitable substitute.
As soon as the rear wheel finds a home I will post an update.

Very nice work on that rear wheel Mence, I can see what you mean about needing a third hand.

Cheers Bill, it looks fiddly, trying to line the two threaded bolts up on the dampers while aligning the swing arm pivots as well as making sure the drive belt routes correctly. Woke up feeling alarmingly sober so will try to drop the back end in this morning.

Hello chaps. Success!, a bit of fiddling here and there and it all slots in nicely. Still need to tighten up the various nuts and bolts but that will wait until I'm totally happy. Thanks!
