Andy thank you buddy! I was planning on painting the lower hull with clear gloss to give it a wet mud effect but after doing a test spot I don't like the way it looks, way to dark and it started to loosen the grout .Have to think on this a bit before I decide to call it finished.

Looks like you got what you were after Leon! Nice touch going with the grout and tinting to get the color you needed for a Vietnam finish.

Bill thank you! I have an idea how to get the wet mud look on the lower hull without it turning dark, just need to experiment a bit and see if it works.

just a note:
the Igloo water container were used in O.D., and a silver color. Merimite cans almost always were O.D., but have seen two or three in grey. Usually kept in the bustle like the Igloo. The heat from the engine would have made hot water. Otherwise near perfect. gary

Looking great Leon! Almost at the end of that tunnel now!! All the fun is in the experimenting!! You can try a little clear gloss mixed into a small amount of the mud mix. When it dries, it should keep the sheen. Looking forward to the next round!! Keep up the good work buddy!!!

Todd thank you! I thought about mixing a little clear in with the mud but it was after I applied the mud .Think I'll mix up a small sample tomorrow and see how it looks when dry then go from there.

Gary thank you for your input ! Much appreciated.I can't change them now but I'll bookmark this for future Ref. the deal with placing them in the turret bustle is that most all tanks were used off road, and even though they weighed close to 100K pounds they still bounced around. Marines did do a bit of road security north of DaNang, and that would be a nice mine sweep diorama that few folks ever think about. South of DaNang was a Marine / CAV effort. Mud! There's a lot more to mud that most of us think about. If the area is largely agricultural, the mud will usually be dark brown to jet black. Never put a "48" in a rice paddy! It will be hull down in a matter of seconds. Once the hull bottom gets into the mud it seems to just suck it in. UGLY! Roads will be mostly red dirt, and the further west you go, the more red dirt. Engine deck on a 48 is a story in itself, Gets hot enough to start a fire, so be careful what you put on top of it. I have seen some guys actually put cans water with C rats in top of it to sort of cook it. Not trying to be critical or anything like that. Just been a around some M48's in the combat zone too much. gary
