you guys building 48's do a nice job. The roll of chain link fencing is a nice touch, and most always used engineer's stakes to hang it to. I know of no one that sells engineer's stakes, and they were used by everybody!
An M48 spending 12 months breaking jungle with go thru two power packs and often three or four. It's that tough. Anything tied down to the fenders will be ripped off in one day, so everything is placed a little more inwards (all tracks by the way). Now if you just going thru corn fields and dry areas it is no problem. A tank braking jungle usually has extremely bent up fenders. This is especially noticeable in tanks used in II-Corp and south. Most tanks used the biggest 50 caliber ammo box they could get on the mount. The normal small ones were just big enough to run dry at a very intense moment (especially true with M113's). CAV units often kept a large tomato juice can full of transmission grease to help cool the barrel down. Changing a 50 caliber barrel that's red hot is not fun, and real bad when somebody's got an interest in your body. The canvas cover for the barrel / turret junction will often fade to a light brown color. Most tanks and ACAV's carried a five gallon can of transmission fluid (red oil), and maybe another for other places. These were always marked. Pinch bars were sought after, and when you got a CBL'd track, you raided it for everything you could carry off. I've see tanks with three and four bars on them. Towels would be hung across anything you might touch with your bare hands.

Gary, I'm listening too, I've got an M48 in the works, kind of waiting for somebody to do the M8 'dozer.... Leon, looking real good. If I may, regarding your base? The vegetation looks like it's spaced a little too regularly, maybe add a bit to make it look a little more natural? On a side note, a few years ago I did a model very similar to what you've got going here, and during a party, one of my friends took a phone pic of it, sent it to his dad, who really liked it, so it sits on my buddy's dad's desk now. Turns out he had first-hand memories, and now fifty or so years later, confessed to wanting a model of "his" tank. I was glad to help.

Looks like a hair-club-for-men procedure gone horribly wrong (but in a good way for your base!) there Leon! Should help add some visual interest with the vehicle placed for sure.

It grows to about a foot and a half tall to two feet tall. Kind of looks like wheat. gary

Andy! Thank you buddy,I really like him holding the shotgun to. an M79 might have been a little better, and here's why. After a couple belts thru the fifty, it gets hard to see what's going on. But the blast from an M79 round gives the guy on the fifty a place to shoot. Plus a can round out of a 79 is a beast! Nothing wrong with the weapon you chose, but also not as common as one would think. I would hang some smoke grenades within easy reach of the TC. Can't call in an air strike without them, and a dust off has to have them as well. Use red, green, yellow or purple smoke. Plus us the biggest ammo can you can find! gary

I've heard stories of guys shooting smoke grenades with an M79. I've never seen that round. There's also the WP round, but all I saw was HE and WP. gary
