To all for following and for your comments, my thanks . A few months ago finished a Beaufighter with decoration in North Africa. The paints I used are the same that I am using for the Spitfire. After applying varnish, wash noticed that many of the desired effects, shading, had almost disappeared. This time I decided to slightly increase the contrast in the colors that I used for the lights and shadows. Hope I have not screwed up. Regards ajcmac

It all depends on what are you aiming for... If you're aiming for a subtle effect you're on the right path, IMHO.
I personally like it this way, gloss and matt coat will blend the tones together.

I agree with Lui, I think you're on the right track here with the contrasts, should produce a nice result once the camo pattern is on.

This is looking good. I think you've got a good starting pallet. I shade in a similar manner here recently and I've found that clear coats and washes are going to subdue it a lot.
That Bristol is absolutely beautiful too btw.

The weathering looks about right for an in service fighter, these could look anywhere between a few weeks in, maybe your beautiful Beau, to absolutely wrecked! The sun bleached all the colours to a light stone and the dust simply blasted it away to leave a very Matt finish or even bare metal. The worst area of wear was on the back of the prop where the paint was eroded very quickly to the point where pilots would complain about the sun blinding them as it reflected off the polished metal or even wood! How do I know, I knew a North Africa Hurricane pilot many years ago and he loved to share his stories and I loved to listen

Excellent technique AJ. The beaufighter is first class, can't wait to see the finish on the spitfire.

Thank you for your words and for following . After some info and photos taken in some forums I've concluded that these aircraft were to North Africa painted with the colors used in Europe. Were then painted with the colors used in North Africa without major concerns. No stencils. Only painted yellow bands at the leading edge of the wings. Now the decals. Best regards ajcmac

Makes sense about the markings and the Africa paint-jobs, it was a common thing on the German side as well. Looking good with the edge bands added.
