Muddy StuG 3 Ausf G

Using this as inspiration:



I've been working on this for the last couple of weeks.

Pink Foam Mock Up.



I'm waiting on more Voyager parts to details out the roof and misc hardware.




The stowage is a mix of what ever I had. BlackDog resin, Tasca fuel cans, styrene, and epoxy.



The kit zimm was OK but the seam lines on the upper front armor had a nasty seam that needed filling. I created a small tool to match the pattern, patched it up as best I could and then covered it with a tarp.





Still in progress are the tow cables and misc hardware. Realized now I need to add the zimm to the rear lower hull. I also think there is an additional box on top of the larger box. Or, the box has a weid shape.

Comments or knowledge about this vehicle appreciated. I'd like to date this a little better. Early Winter 44?

Muddy? Oh yeah! Lots of mud. I couldn't figure out how the bow got so muddy until a friend mentioned there has to be another tank in front of this one in the convoy. If I was the driver, I'd be pissed. :-D

Can anyone make out the name? Bieger?

XXXXXNONE - It's scratchbuilt using K&S brass strip stock. I made the template in 3D CAD and used 2D drawings as a layout aid.

Yes. And its just supper handy to have around. BUT judging by new to me additional photos of this same unit, the frame is most likely round rod and not flat stock. Oh well. Live and learn.

OK. Some progress. The weather has not been cooperating around here but I have been able to squeeze in some time to get some paint on this.
BTW - Tamiya airbrushes just fine at 3C.

White wash has been achieved with the HS technique and then some mapping with acrylics. Some of the contrast was lost with the following filter but I'll bring some of that back up after the wash.









Man, white is difficult to photograph.

Elco - you're right. The over the top mud should make this fun or a nerve wracking experience.
Tony - Damn skinny. Have several more in the queue.

AM notes if interested -

Voyager PE StugIII/PzIII Fenders - Nice set. Some trimming of the kit is required but not called out.
Voyager PE for StuGIII ausf G - I only used about 10% of this. Many of the details are too thin, inaccurate, don't fit properly, or the kit parts are better. The cleaning rods are nice but now buried under a pile of crap.
Aliance Model Works German Tool Clamps - Nice set. Lots of clamps. Different sizes. The very thin sections tore, yes tore, so I had to bend carefully.
ModelKasten StuGIII details - Man these parts are nice.
Eureka XXL tow cables - Nice soft copper wire but be careful drilling out the base of the towing eye as the resin wants to split.
Eureka XXL ammo box - Nice wood grain inside and out. Brass shells could use PE for stamped end though.
Tasca Fuel Cans - Nice details but the laser cut paper center is kinda... different
Panzer Art covered muzzle brake. Barrel has wire cast in so it won't warp
Panzer Art covered cast mantel - nice sculpt but now buried under the tarp
Black Dog British Sherman Stowage - I covered the Brit ammo cans with a tarp.
Armor Scale Burnt out road wheels. They have a large-ish pour stub that needs to be carefully removed.
Oh, and I think there is a Dragon StuG kit in there somewhere.



I have figures on order now and started working on the base last night.

Thanks all. It's getting there. The zimm makes the WW a little more challenging. The chipping isn't as easy and artful as a smooth surface but I guess the real deal had the same issues.

OH, forgot, the WW on everything below the fenders is just painted on by brush. It won't be too visible later so i didn't go into that much detail.
