Joe, Sam… thanks so much guys. While looking at pics of other “F” models I came across this product that I am trying out for the 1st time. GWH makes rivet sets for a number of aircraft. This is for the Hasegawa 109 but I am hoping it won’t be hard to make it fit if it does not already. There is a large sheet with all the rivets of the planes sections printed on what sort of feels like decal paper. The 1st big difference is the cover film covers the whole sheet. My 1st thought was it was going to be a real PITA with all the decal edges. Not so. These are like decals in reverse. They need to be applied to a primed surface, not bare plastic. Cut it out, soak in water, apply with some setting solution, let dry for about an hour. Sounds like a regular decal. Here’s the trick. The “decal film” gets peeled off leaving just the little rivets attached in their perfect pattern. The pics will be self explanatory at this point. The rivets are micro small and you can just feel them when you run your fingers over the surface. Should look nice under a coat of paint.

On the the LG cover test piece it went very off without a hitch. Since taking the pics of that I did the tops of the wings. The plastic film would not peel off. Even if I did manage to get an edge up. I took some strong tape and pressed it over the film and it came up that way and didn't seem to bother any exposed rivets... so far... of adjacent areas. The sheet say to wait 2 hours but that seemed to dry the film down very "hard". Here's one of the wings.

Amen to inappropriately located join locations Marc! I will second that! Anyway, more importantly - the excellence-ness just keeps getting better. Keep on keeping on! Those rivets are incredible. Someone was really thinkin' when they came up with that idea. Lookin' forward to seeing those under some paint. The realism things like this brings just gets better. Now if they could come up with a way of making some mini-me's, we could jump in and fly these jewels.

Thanks guys. This is a pretty cool product. I mistakenly said the company was GWH, as in Great Wall Hobbies in China. It is actually HGW Models in the Czech Republic. you can "Czech" 'em out here (sorry ) shop.hgwmodels.cz/

Not much of an update but it's been a few days to get some bench time. It took snow storm #10 for the season to quiet things down a bit. I finally got all the riveting done. I was about to give this product a final grade of average at best. As is usually the case it was a problem of my own doing that hampered my progress. I was using too strong of a decal setting solution that was making is very difficult to peel off the clear film. Once I went to a weaker solution the film peeled of in singles pieces almost every time. I had to do some fudging since this set was made for the hasesgawa kit but I think the overall effect will be nice even though there were a few fit issues. A lot did fit perfectly though. Now that I've got all the snow off the driveway and front walk I can go down tot he booth and start some preshading. WOOHOO!!!

when the F2 came out I bought two detail sets from Vector, and they really add a lot to the kit! I don't know if the do anything for the F4. I recommend them. gary

Good to see you're taking advantage of being 'snowed in' there Marc. Nice progress on the rivets...don't envy you the shoveling at all though. I suppose now isn't the time to say our high temp was 75F today...no, that wouldn't do at all.
