I suppose this falls under "WWII Vehicles - Axis"? Picked up a very cool base from Joe Farina at Baycon this past November...trying to figure out what to put together for club build night on Wednesday, decided to crack into this! Cobbled together an Ausf. G turret from Tamiya and DML leftovers from the spares box with some scratched bits added. As of Wednesday after build night: After that, hit it with a bit of Tamiya primer to cover all the bits of plastic and metal. Used one of the many variations of AK Interactive dunkelgelb for the base color, then some more for a bit of color modulation: Then last night I sprayed the brown camo lines with some thinned Tamiya (not thin enough - got a bit of spatter, which I usually don't) then painted the dots/blotches by hand with some thinned Vallejo. And that's where she sits right now (albeit under a coat of Future I sprayed this morning in prep for decals this afternoon). Sorry for the pics - my auto white balance was all over the place with the white base on the white paper. Should get cleared up once I have some color on the groundwork!

Pretty neat! I think you're picking all the easy stuff for your 50 quota though Dupes... Looking forward to more on this one.

...I think you're picking all the easy stuff for your 50 quota though Dupes... Hey now! By the time I make this base look halfway decent - including adding a barbed wire fence, I hope - and weather the pants off of that stationary turret, it's going to be more than a "quickie". Want to add a fig, too (which will slow me waaaay down), if I can find someone suitable in the stash. THAT being said, I'll admit that shooting for 50 will/has change(d) my build order a bit. Some of the larger kits with ridonculous amount of aftermarket and/or resin may very well get pushed to the next calendar year...or at least until I hit the 50 mark! There are some pretty hefty ones coming down the pipe despite that - a 1/32 F4F Wildcat that's ready for paint, a 1/32 Sea Fury that's camped out on my bench right now, some complicated Star Wars stuff...we shall see.

Alright - here's how far I got tonight. Would do some more painting on the base, but I have to let what's on there dry a bit. Decals are on and covered up with a coat of future. These are from Echelon, I took some "generics" off of one of my Panther sheets. First time actually using them - they are SPECTACULAR! Superthin and very opaque - you can hardly tell they aren't paint under the clear coat. Reaaaaaally looking forward to pulling out more. Pics look much better tonight. GIMP's white-balance-ometer was definitely thrown off by the white base on the white background.

Thanks guys! More colors going on the base now. Borrowed the paint scheme from the DML Late G box...figured it was different enough from my other Panthers to work.

Cool camo on the turret! Base is coming along nicely! Quick 1,2,3 build!

Plugging away. Paint is complete on the base, now on to weathering both the base and turret...plus any additions I can make to the base to spruce it up a bit. Digging around in the stash now for "extras".

Ok dupes, I see your point about the 50...just remember, no pressure! Nice progress on the Turm.

Pressure? Not at all! If anything, it gives me motivation to get through the tough parts of each build and get stuff on the shelf. That, and gives me hope that someday I can build all of the kits in the basement!

I will indeed, Carl! Especially since I can't find any figs in my stash that go with this at all. Had hoped I had some U.S. or Russian infantry-types advancing on the pillbox...but no luck. I just realized how much of my figure stash is A) German and B) tankers. Starting in on the weathering tonight.

Thanks Mark! Got some more things to do to the base - washes, pigments, some vegetation.
Was going to add some Eduard PE barbed wire around the 'installation' to keep enterprising enemy soldiers out, but am having some troubles working with this stuff. Anyone ever used it before? Can't get it to keep it's shape (rolled) to save my life. Tried wrapping it around a smaller-than-I-want cylinder to get it to take shape, but no luck. Not sure what else to try?

Update: plugging away on this one...almost there. Drilled some fence-post holes in the base and created a makeshift barbed wire barrier (to at least slow the infantry down some!). Warning - photoetch barbed wire is evil. Like, just as bad as real barbed wire! Eduard should supply some of the chainmail gloves we used to have in the Army - my fingers are ripped to shreds! Playing around with camo netting - I had so much fun, I glued it down. Might not have been the best idea, as I'm not done with the washes and other weathering, but at least it'll be integrated? Still need to find my spent shells in the basement. I know I have some 75mm casings.

Very cool Marc. I am doubly glad I found this thread. 1st of course is as I said... that's cool and nicely done. 2nd is it has given me an idea for another Peanut Butter Panzer. I had been searching for a while for a Dragon 144th Panther. Finally found one on Ebay but the hull and rear plate are misshaped. But the turret looks nice. Thanks buddy.

Dupes,
Looks great. I think you did the right thing with the cammo net - the additional washes will help integrate it into the rest of the build.
I'm also glad to see you got out of the basement after we talked on the phone last night and got that damned barbed wire done!!

Thanks guys! Yeah, I'm liking how this is coming out so far myself. I'm also glad to see you got out of the basement after we talked on the phone last night and got that damned barbed wire done!! Hahaha...yeah, I was up until 0030 or so playing around with that wire and the netting. Still need to find a way to "tack" some of the loose wraps of wire down (i.e., the parts in between the posts). No way they're going to stay in place long term if I don't give them some assistance.
