Oh, I don't doubt that P-51 kit is spectacular (seen one in the box), but they certainly aren't "inexpensive"! Need to take out a bank loan if you want to serial-build those things... That's very true. And if you get the "AMS" and HAVE to have all the aftermarket you're getting even more costly. Fortunately, those kits are darn near perfect as is, and you really don't need AM...minus decals

Back-to-back Tamiya P-51s? How many more of them to you have hiding in the stable?? I got 2 more of the p51's, the Corsair and the Spitfire XVIe. I sold most my RC cars and splurged a little on kits lol. That's when I bought the 1/12 Enzo too... Found out how to piss off the wife real quick... Now I don't tell her what I spend on modeling ANYMORE... ROFL:-X ;D

Moose, I really think you should search your heart and donate one of those extra Mustangs to the needy. Specifically me. No one needs that many!

I figure it is time to update this a little bit. I've been working on the Corsair in between some other projects. Have to admit, I have gotten frustrated a few times - is there not an ejector pin mark that Trumpeter does not like?? This thing is full of them, and you can count that they will be in the most inconvenient spots: This piece, the ribbed side wall of the cockpit, pretty prominent feature - 14!!!! 14 flipping ejector pin marks!!!! ARRRRRRGH The cockpit itself: There are a few... only saving grace here is that most of these will be hidden. Obviously, the green putty shows you that not ALL of them will be hidden... So I continued to plug away, building bits and pieces from all over the plane. Got it to the point where I could get it to look something like a Corsair: Then I thought I was ready to button up the pit, and I went to look for the seatbelts... hello?? Seatbelts?? Anyone???!!! Yeeeeeah... so apparently Trumpy did not think seatbelts were important (which is odd, since I have the 1/32 Mustang and that kit includes a very nice PE belt set). Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!! So I got my hands on a belt from RB. This is a great little set - about 30-ish pieces, a mix of PE and paper, really sharp, pretty easy to work with, just a little time consuming: Then I looked at the pit itself and noticed three problems, only two of which I can (will?) do anything about. First is the instrument panel. Trump provides a nice film with the instruments, with a clear piece to go over the top of it. I painted it up and put it together, and then realized the part that lays over the film is so thick that the instruments themselves are virtually invisible. GR GRRR GRRRRRRRRRR!!!! Nothing to be done for that now, I want to move on! So I turn to the right and left instrument clusters and notice, on the right, there is a set of three levers, very prominent in the pics of the 1-D that I have, which were omitted. Out comes the wire and the pin vise: Not perfect, but it should fit the bill... Now to the left. On the upper left side, there is a 'wedge' shaped instrument cluster with three or four levers. Again, VERY prominent in the Corsair pics I have. The problem is, though Trumpy did include the wedge shaped piece, the levers are represented by one, vaguely knob looking thing and a blob of plastic that looks like.. a blob of plastic. It MIGHT work in 1/48th, but in 32nd.... no way. So, out comes the razor saw, zip zip, plastic bits are gone, but now what to do? Ah HA!!! I had a left over PE set from a Tristar Marder H that happened to have a few little PE tabs that should get the job done... so here they are, mounted in clips so I can put a glue 'knob' at the end: And then mounted on the 'wedge' piece: I had thought by now I'd have the controls all painted and the pit done and the fuse all buttoned up... yeah, not so much.... what does Trumpy have in store for me next??

Holy thread resurrection Batman! Good to see we'll get this one rolling again (and that you've been diligently plugging away in my absence). I hadn't paid much attention to the Trumpeter pit since I have an Aires replacement for this one - but that means I have to find something to use in the other three down in the basement... Looks good man!

Nice to see this one's still plugging along Boyd, you should do your own nose art for this one using the words 'ejector queen' or something to that effect.
