edit: lol, Guy, you posted while I was updating, you must have read my mind . Well, here it is ^^ last couple of days I have done something - and that's a lot for the time being The interior is receiving some paint and dirtines: I'm also reconsidering the figures and their placement. I ordered a pointing Waffen SS grenadier, with the StuG commander and an Oberscharleiter listening to him. meanwhile the rest of the crew is stashing ammo, the crewfigs will need a bit of (re)sculpting what do you guys think? Cheers

Every time I see the interior of one of those things, I can't help but be amazed by the amount of "elbow room" the crew had! I don't even think sardines are packed that tight!
Everything's looking good.

Making good progress on this one Wouts! Have to agree with Bob, German AFVs weren't exactly designed with creature comforts in mind.

With the risk of no one checking this one out because the GB page is on the bottom screen and this GB has been stalled for a while...I do have an update. I worked a bit more on the StuG interior, using oils and finishing with some pigments. A while ago I also started trying out some poses of figures to set up a scene...I decided on this final set up: Basically the scene shows an SS Grenadier briefing SS-Untersturmführer Heyerick and SS-Oberscharführer Takatsch concerning enemy movement in the area. The rest of the crew in the background are loading ammo. Figures used were all Alpine, except for two, which - as you might have noticed - will be home made...hope that will go well It took me some time but two figures are nearing their completion paintwise...not completely finished but I'll show you how far I'm standing. Quite happy with the look. I was a bit sceptic on how the camouflage would go on since I never did that before. most scary part to paint: the Flemish armshield on SS-Untersturmführer Heyericks arm! Collar tabs are courtesy of Archer, the 'Langemarck' cufftitle is a Tamiya decal and I'm waiting for an Archer dry transfers sheet to arrive for the shoulder boards Hope you guys like it a bit... Cheers

Thanks for the great replies guys Superb work on the figures! That crew with hands on the hip looks very familiar... is it from Alpine? lol, you should read the text bud Yes, all figs are Alpine ones, except for the scary chaps. The one you are referring to is the Alpine NCO of the Leibstandarte ^^ Cheers

So, last update was from October it seems...that's way too long! And finally, after many moons, finally time for an update I'd say! Yeeess! So, Buildwise the StuG was ready. Originally I had an aftermarket gun barrel with the heavy muzzle brake, but looking at the photos it appeared to me that this StuG had the smaller muzzle brake, so I got me a new Aber gun barrel and installed it (it's all dry fitted though). And this is how Mr. (or is it misses?) StuG looked this morning prior to painting. Needless to say that masking the fighting compartment was a pain in the bottom... Although I often don't use primers, this time I was going to because of all the different media like the photo etch, and resin zimmerit. I'm a big fan of Mr. Surfacer primers...up to recently I used the 1200. But I found out that they have an even finer one: Mr. Surfacer 1500. I got the black version, and thinned it down a bit with Mr. Levelling Thinner 400. Sprays like a dream! So, who knows, maybe tomorrow a dark yellow-ish update ^^ Cheers

Looking great! Are you planning to give this a command set of antenna to match the radios?

This is an excerpt from an article I wrote on the first "Smart Kit" StuG for MMiR when it was first released in 2009.
"Let me digress and talk about the radios included in the kit. Before I get too far I would like to thank Andreas Lärka and the other lads over on Planet Armor for helping me figure out what was what with the radio load out in the kit. On the commanders side we have a Fu16 set made up from a 10 W.S.h transmitter and an Ukw.E.h receiver. On the loaders side is a Fu8 set which includes a 30 W.S.h. transmitter and an M.w.E.c. receiver. This is a rather lavishly equipped StuG as most StuGs would just have a Fu15 (Ukw.E.h) receiver. Battery commander’s vehicles would have the addition of the Fu16 set on the loaders side with the Fu15 on the commander’s. The way this baby is set up it would have to be a Battalion command StuG. Now just to make it more interesting the Fu8 used a stern antenna (star) and an armored pot around the antenna mount. This is not included in the kit, but is fairly easy to fix. I made the pot from styrene tube, and the stern antenna came from a DML command Jagdpanther sitting on the shelf."

jsteinman, thanks chap. And thanks about the info, I do think stuff like that is always interesting. Sadly, I didn't do too much research regarding the radio equipment. But as far as I know (and there's very very little info on the StuG's serving with the Flemings) the StuG of SS-Ustuf. Heyerick was no command version, by far not a battallion command version. Since not much of the fighting compartment is to be seen with the roof in place I'll leave it as is though. ^^ Bob, thanks bud, yeah was glad to pop her out again. Quite a chance this one will be my finished build for the year 2016 lol Dogfish, thanks for your enthousiasm Guyke, bedankt makker! Bill, many thanks, hope not to dissappoint you gents ^^ mister modsrule, thanks for the thumbs up chap Hi Dierk, I'm glad you are drooling Sir And so, I spent another couple of hours in the basement spraying a basecoat of Tamiya Desert Yellow. Usually I use Tamiya Dark Yellow, but I like to get some diversity. Buff is also a great color to use. After the basecoat I sprayed some Desert Yellow mixed with Deck Tan on upper areas and hatches to create some more interest and get a subtle kind of color modulation like effect. I didn't go full out since most of it will be covered underneath the whitewash anyway. Next I will need to paint all the details and some minor chipping and then comes the dreaded assembly of all the different parts. Quite scary since that's a stage where a lot can go wrong...face 7 Cheers
