Russ - is the TS46 from the can? Or do you decant it? From the can. Hi, my name is Russ and I'm a spray can user.

Oh, I am as well. I go through 99 cent Walmart flat black rattlecans like they're going out of style!
Do you think priming for tamiyas sprays is necessary? Or is that a personal preference thing?

Hi Leon! Thanks, T! It's on the way, and the lovely Missus is picking up another can of sand today. Dupes, I think the Tamiya paint is tough enough to not use primer, but it's EXPENSIVE, and I try to stretch it as far as possible, so I use primer to get coverage on all the dis-similar materials -or colors of plastic- I typically use in a build. I think that gives me a head-start on things, and Krylon is designed to be really tough, to accept any kind of top coat AND to show flaws in bodywork, so it's ideal. Using gray primer under this same sand color, I did an M50, M51 and half this tank on two cans. Whilst I was pondering things (been watching Chef! lately) I decided to load the turret basket up, gonna do a little vignette with this one, and I need some gypsy junk in the trunk.

Nice progress in the paint department there Russ! Very nice. Nothing wrong with the spraycan approach, whatever works!

Thanks, Andy. Dupes: Yep. I used up pretty much half of one can doing the road wheels. Dang it, but they have to be shot lightly from so many angles.....

Thank you! We've got over-night guests for the next couple of days so I don't expect to get much done on this one, but I'm feeling the itch pretty bad. I have a bunch of old Verlinden IDF ration boxes made up, some 5-gal cans ready to go and plenty of Aves, ready to do some stowage.

So.... long time no post. Um, long time no work on model. But I did get a fix in last night, started the wash process. Hull and running gear have a gray and black acrylic was applied and scrubbed, leaving LOTS of contrast. Because this is a one-color scheme that will have lots of dust applied in the finishing stages, I wanted a good, definite high-contrast wash in all the panel lines, grates, grills and such so that I may still have something of it left later on in the process. I also wanted to take the TS-46 sand color more towards the gray, trying to get a better representation of the IDF sand gray circa 1982. Here's a pic of the hull and un-washed turret together: Hull top without the lights I use to work in (and take pics): And in the same light all the rest of the pics are taken in: ^ Looks pretty stark, but it's what I want here. That's a lot of uninterrupted area in one color, and I want to do something to make it interesting. ^ Rear mud flaps are painted in Floquil grimy black enamel, tires on return rollers the same. ^ Black wash, grimy black tires, Games Workshop steel color on idler contact surface. I've been thinking of trying "oil-dot filtering" on this one, but waiting to see how it looks when I get it further along. I'd be wise, actually, to try a new-to-me method on something I don't have so much time invested in, but that big engine cover area is begging for it.....

I kindly thank you, gentlemen. Andy, I've seen some Merk1B's on the news, thinking maybe I need to hunt up another kit.....or did out the Meng Mk3 currently residing in the stash. What would really help is SpadeAce or Friul doing some "Batash" tracks, then the new Academy 2D would be in the line-up in a heartbeat.

Modern is fun, elco, plenty of opportunities to do lots of weathering, modes, etc. Friday night was a modeling night, sort of..... I got the turret washed and started detail painting, still happy with the gray wash, and lots of panel lines on the turret top to make pop. White stripe on gun tube was initially a pieced-together decal, but nothing I had in the stash would settle down to the contours, even using Micro-sol, so I left some of the decal and used it as a guide to hand-paint the stripe. The same gray wash was then applied to the gun tube. I know there's a better way, and one day I may go ahead and try masking and spraying, but not this time......

This is when it starts to take on that 'mean' look that's so appropriate to these vehicles Russ. Looking good!

What's the OOB-er? Got a thread going? The OOB-er is the same kit as this one (just OOB!). No thread...so swamped at work this time of year I'm lucky to get on here at all much less blog stuff. I'll be sure to put up a finished pic when it's done, though!

Bill, T: Thanks! Dupes, throw up a pic if you get a chance, I'm curious to see your take on the same kit. BTW, I feel your pain about time. I did a little detail painting this morning, and it'll all have to be touched up: coffee shakes. It just confirms my suspicion that I am steadiest in the evening.

Some stowage from the spares box, Verlinden ration boxes and Aves sleeping mats: I pre-painted most of this stuff, but want to do the rest of the painting before I cover it up. Cover will be an air recognition tarp, not sure at this point if I'm going to use more Aves or go with wine foil. Happy Friday!
