Thanks guys. Figs for sure, working on scaring up at least two with good heads. Problem is, I wanted to use some Hornet heads I picked up a bit ago but they all have the old "bone-dome" US helmet, and for this period (1982) the turret crew should all have the later 602 CVC helmet. The only examples of that I have are from Academy, and the faces are just not that good.

Is there a way to chop the helmet off only and use the face from hornet? May be tricky but it can be done if you are desperate...

Life lesson (for me anyway): When you're tired, quit modeling for a while. In the process of adding the small door lever decals to the back equipment doors, I grabbed the Plastruct instead of the MicroSol. Argh!!! So, a quick mask and re-spray, and I'm back to where I started, but no more decals. In fact, I can't find the entire sheet I had planned to use on this tank, so I have a wee issue with markings. The particular tank I'm modeling doesn't have much on it anyway, but I got zip. Hmmm..... Anyway, the re-spray: And the same area washed: And apparently the only pic I took of all the rest of the work I did before accidentally making a couple of big spots of bare plastic on the back: I get some pics tonight, but all the turret stowage has the base coat on it and I'm ready to do a tarp or air recog. panel.

Good fix, Russ!
Your build looks soooo different from my OOB effort it isn't even funny. Hah.

Thanks, dupes. I did this one OOB about 15 years ago, remember it well. It still builds up into a good Merk, though. Terry, thank you. I'm going really heavy with the washes now cuz I want something to show after I get some dust on.
News flash: I ordered up some Echelon "Merk1 in Lebanon" markings from Red Dog Hobbies, so my world is a little more round than it was this morning. I may not be doing the exact tank in the pic I was doing, but it'll work.

Very nice work on the save Russ. I hear you about confusing bottles...and definitely don't try to model when you're tired...when that little voice says 'I can get one more thing done if I just go on for a few more minutes' is the warning sign that something bad is about to happen!

Stowage, with the tarps setting up. Tarps will come off for paint, and one will be just a tarp, the other the air recog. panel. Aside from some detail painting, I'm in a holding pattern until the decals arrive.

Mailman brought some decals today, yay! And, a plug for Red Frog: the website has pre-computed shipping charges on you checkout, but because I only had a small-ish envelope, my shipping was less than anticipated, and the charged amount on my card less than planned. Very nice.

Decals, decals, decals. Echelon is cool, lots of neat stuff, too small to see but it sure looks good when on. I only wrecked a couple, but one was the big Israeli flag, dang it. Anyway, after looking at the diagrams/drawings/placement Echelon gives you, it looked to me like I could use the markings supplied on my model without having to do any mods to the model itself. My mantlet-mounted 50 cal is no longer "documented", and my hull serial numbers don't match the decals, but I'm moving on. A light coat of clear gloss, decals, including a Yanush stripe, and another light shot of gloss this morning means I'll be ready to start the final dusting next time I'm at the bench. Yay! Pics so far: Like they say in my favorite SciFi show: "Shiny!"

Thanks, Leon. And now, ladies and gentlemen, I give you..... Pigments! My custom mix, consisting of brown, gray and a funky ugly green: I needed to get my base color closer to the later IDF sand gray and blend in some road dirt and masonry dust, thinking about the eventual base this one will be on. There may be a beat-up Citroen involved..... Still to do that I know of: Attach this, to replace the air recog panel that I lost, don't ask me where it went, I have to earthly idea: And do the headlights, paint the tail light lenses, attach the one end of the tow cable that's loose on the turret side and see if I want to attempt figs before SuperCon next month. Hmmm.... And maybe paint the tow shackles a slightly different color to make them pop a little bit? I think I may need to darken up the exhaust staining as well.... thoughts?

I always do heavy weathering you know me... Careful Andy, if my head gets any bigger, they'll make a movie about me..... You're right about them being smokey: I was there about 10 years ago and would have missed seeing four of them on a patrol along the Syrian border, except as we were passing, one of them began to move and the cloud of smoke gave it away in a heart-beat, causing me to look and see the others and an M151. I can say for a certainty that the later IDF gray/green blends in well with the Eastern Israel/Syria border area in December.

Dupes, thanks. It's gotta be dirty, I'm modeling it as if it was at the pointy end of a long raod march, shooting all the way. Bill, no secrets here! And all my hats are adjustable....

Very very nice! The final dusting really brought it "home".
A tip if I may?
Krylon "Khaki" is a bit closer to the color from that era right from the can. IIRC it only comes in gloss, so you can eliminate that step.

Thanks, G. Ya know, I think I have a half-can of that color on the shelf, used it for a Tamiya Tiger, Porsche turret, and come to think of it, I think you're right. The only thing I wasn't fond of was how "loose" it went on, and it took forever to dry, making me paranoid about runs and puddling. I have a couple of later IDF builds in line, though, and am not opposed to trying it again, maybe in several more, and lighter coats. It was pretty tough after id was well and truly dry, I put two more colors on it and it didn't even think of lifting.

I use Krylon all the time. Almond looks good as a early war "Dunklegelb" as well as a modern "Sand". The only issue is some are hot enough to craze some plastics. I always use a primer first. You do have to tread lightly as those cans are paint hoses sometimes.
They do dry hard and tough though.
