Hey fellas! As you know Rob and I will be working with Vallejo by providing demos at the upcoming IPMS show in Virginia. Among some of the test beds we will be using, you guessed it...ship will be apart of it. These things lend themselves to a wide assortment of painting and weathering fun! So my small offering is Lindberg's North Atlantic Fishing Trawler. Not the best kit in the world by all means. If you were interested in the kit, be aware there are EPM's strewn throughout! Oops...a saw was a little too close to the bench when I started putting things together!! Last night I played aorund with something new on the bench; Vallejo's Liquid Mask. I have not used this before but after some bench testing it is full steam ahead. I wanted to mask a few areas I wanted to glue some items on after the paint and priming....this should do the trick!! I shot some Black primer in the cabin area last night and will glue the top on today and hopefully get to priming as well!! Should have some more pics soon!! Looks like I have some catching up to do as Rob is already letting the paint fly!! Thanks for tuning in!!

I suspect foul play in that saw incident...there's too much of a coincidence between this one and Rob's build. It's a conspiracy!

Was hoping you'd start a blog here. Always a good thing when the saw gets too close to the model.
I tested out the blue masking fluid as well...lol. The stuff is fantastic. It reminds me of the Revell stuff I used back in Germany. Gonna post a pic soon of the Tug, trying to stay a step ahead of you bro.

Thanks Deano!! Doesn't take much around here to fall into the drink!! Thanks Bro! LOL...not sure you will have to "try" too much!! Still have not made it to the cave today!! Maybe after supper!! The masking is pretty cool stuff! I can see me running out of this one soon!! Thanks for swinging by Anthony! I certainly hope it will be!! LOL!! If not, I have a nice new doorstop for the cave!!

I am confused. Not that there's anything new about that. But I'm thinking this should be a sinky and not a floaty? Sweet so far T.

Sure you have already an idea in your imagination where you want to go with this but you might find it useful to Google images "Skeleton Coast Wrecks" , if you have not done so already,

Todd
An awful big opening on one end for a floaty, what is the material being used here, I thought Lindberg was always wood but I may be confusing them with someone else. That blue stuff looks interesting, I have some from Micro Mark that is basically clear which makes it difficult to use.

Thanks for the tip there Gordon! Fair amount of decent references under that quarry! Big holes and boats don't fair too well!! This kit is all styrene my friend! Not sure which company you might be thinking of...maybe Billings? The Liquid Mask is new to me and I am kind of happy It came across the bench. Works great. Dried fast so small amounts at a time is advised. The blue does help for sure! Peels off easy too! I used it today to cover the entire wood decking...giving things a run for their money!! I hope to have some sort of an update tomorrow at some point.

As the show is bit far for me to get to, could you provide a few details as to how you did the deck planking?

Hi Gordon, sorry about that. Was thinking of just using this for a test bed more than the build/paint stages...never took the pics of the process but I should be able to explain the process a bit. I actually started with the grey primer base. After that, I feathered in some Grey Violet near the edges with the AB. From there it was hand brushing. The paint needs to be thinned about 50% or so...I take a drop or two with some water in a separate cup and dip the brush once or twice in the water and add it to the drop(s) until it thins tha Model Air color to about half its consistency. I then took the Grey Violet and randomly applied it to various locations and not doing too much that it dries in place...basically half of the roof was worked on at a time. Once the paint went down, a clean damp, not wet, brush and lightly stipple and swipe the individual panels the paint was applied. I repeated this process with a lighter tan color. I also too the Blue Grey and made a wash consistency and with a tiny tipped brush applied the color to the joints and edges. I feathered this back as well with the damp brush. All of the wood was sealed and then masked with the Liquid Mask to paint the rest. I will revisit a lot of the wood when I am at the show and add varying colors and shades depending on the location.!! Thanks Bro...You don't need to catch up...LOL!! your all packed and ready to go!! But I see that you are teasing me though with the new ship!! LOL!! You know I can't resist it!! Thanks Bill!! I am good at making messes...at least that is what the 'Boss' here says!! Should prove to be a fun project to work on next week!! Thanks Deano!! Hoping to have this in good shape by the end of next week!! Thanks Leon!! I will hold off some brotha'!! Can't wait!! I told Rob to just pick me up on the way....I started waling to the show!!
