Hi guys, As some of you will know I'm going to be awol for no longer than 12 weeks as of next Tuesday - 28th July The Airfix Spit I was building was pretty terrible and fitment wise? It sucked! I'm giving it to my Dad's friend's son who is just getting into wingy things. Now I know for definate when I'm going away what happens? BOOM! Mojo kicks in and I really want to build something tracked, 1/35 and German AND after seeing Bill's latest StuG III project (which I just happened to start earlier this year) I've decided that I'm going to resurrect the StuG for the next few days - one final 'Styrene Hit' before the off! So far the hull and torsion bars are fitted, fenders roughly assembled and I'd just started on the casemate. I was just going to chill over the weekend and start a BIG new project when I get back BUT I've decided I need to keep my mind occupied. I'll be building pretty much OOB. I think I've got the correct RB replacement barrel somewhere but I'll probably stick with Magic Winterketten.Obviously it won't be anywhere near complete but I reckon I can get the Magic Tracks sorted and the basic assembly complete - if I work well I may be able to leave it with a coat of primer on it but no pressure There are 3 options:i) 14.Luftwaffen Felddivision, Norway 1943 which is a grey with speckled white.
ii) StuG. Brig.901, Kharkov '43 (Dunkelgelb with w/wash).
111) StuG. Brig.901, Kharkov '42 - '43 (Pz. Grey with w/wash).I'm DEFINATELY going with the Grey option - I haven't built any Grey builds this year! She's going to be pretty battered, mucky and a general mess - I haven't done a beat down build this year either! I'm not sure if I'm going to button her up or leave some interior visible - the gun assembly is a cracker! Box Art:Link with good info on the kit:www.super-hobby.com/products/Sturmgeschutz-III-Ausf.F-8-SdKfz-142-Late-Production-with-winter-track.htmlwww.bpmodels.net/Model/Album/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=84www.armorama.co.uk/modules.php?op=modload&name=Reviews&file=index&req=showcontent&id=5647I'll pick this up when I'm home again - I've got plans for this one! Starting tomorrow! Ben

Great start sir ... I agree that maybe a baggie full of roadwheels and a file might keep you busy while away from your bench ..lol One thing I noticed is the PE screen seems a bit far back and it should glued right onto the lower hull extension and not up against it ..but that won't show once it is sitting on its wheels.. Keep it coming ..you still got all weekend to go !!

Cheers guys, Rich - re. the PE grill mate it should have pushed up a bit further but was a darn tricky fit and that was was as good as it got. Like you say it's not really going to be on show so I can live with that! I've made some cracking progress this evening. The Casemate is assembled along with everything else. It's all one big 'dry-fit' at the minute but it looks pretty cool and fits together very well. I've got to a point which means I'm starting at approx. section 14 tomorrow which sees the interior assembled along with that awesome gun - plus I've found a suitable RB barrel in the spares box which is a bonus! Dry Fit:Sub Assemblies:Tomorrow I'll be starting to build the gun and interior which is the assembly shown as 'K' below:Hope you like her so far guys! More tomorrow! Ben

Good afternoon fellas I've done a few hours on the F8 today and it's now basically at a stage where I can leave it in a bunch of sub-assemblies and when I'm back I can commit to a permanent fix with glue. All I needed to really do today was assemble the interior and the main gun. As it's going to be pretty much totally zipped up I'm not going to detail the interior (although it would be a nice project for you lads who are into the old 'interior decorating' I don't know if it was just me or if anyone who has built this kit feels the same but getting the gun mated with the Casemate roof AND getting the single periscope into the small hole up into the protective basket was an absolute nightmare! No room for manouvre here but it's all ok in the end. I'm going to use the RB barrel - fitting that should be easy as it only needs to go into the bolted mantlet on the exterior of the Casemate. Tomorrow I'm going to stick the spare wheel holders on the rear and there's a piece to support a run of track links at the back - everything else can wait until my return. As a final bonus not only did I have the right RB barel BUT I also had a full box of Friul Winterketten! Sweeeeet! I had no idea I had them. The Magic Winterketten will keep for something else. Photos:I didn't want to take the gun assembly back out of the Casemate after the struggle to fit it but you get the idea of the interior:Thanks for looking guys - more tomorrow! Ben

Accidentally found some Friuls, eh? How fortunate! Was thinking about that 12 weeks away from the bench thing again...man that would be tough.

You're not alone with trying to figure out how the gun/casemate/interior all fits together Ben, I had to spend some time on that myself with my own build. Looks like you've got things in a good spot for your extended time away, it will be waiting for you when you get back.
