I've started on the armour today and used sea salt for the first time. I don't know if this is causing the white patches but I haven't seen this before now. Not sure whether I will leave it or start again. This is the first time I have used Lifecolor paint and it certainly behaves differently to other brands, in my experience at least. When removing the paint which was applied over a coat of hairspray it peels away in a very realistic manner. This is tricky to control but, hey serendipity!!!!!! Fantastic painting. Don't worry about the white spots, it does happen now and then. You have to you it to your advantage. These actually are not bad at all and actually help the over all effects. With weathering, rust etc these will blend in and also give dimension to the chipping. don't start over, this is perfect. With rust applied, especially the streaking it will look right. Things always look odd at first but the layers that follow bring it all together. This is the best I have seen in a while, better than mine.

Thanks Rob!!!! OOOOPS before I read your post I redid the shield. [img src="[/img] i986.photobucket.com/albums/ae348/bonnie750/DSCF2724.jpg"] The flaking looks more pronounced this time round. I need to remove a few over sized craters but on the whole I am pleased with the progress so far. Bill

The comments are very welcome, thanks to all. I've got some rusting started on the turret. I'm trying to make it look as if it's stood out for a long time, not burnt just abandoned. More difficult than I thought in this scale. Bill ps sorry about the poor quality of some photos.

Thanks guys!! I've run into problems rusting the body and cab. it's very different trying to get rust to look right in this larger scale. A repaint of the body is in order I reckon.

After my whinge on jackwagon's post last night I had another go at this rusting lark. I removed all the paint with IPA and redid the lot in a much lighter rust base colour. Then started the rustification again. This time I'm layering a lot more and it looks better....to me at least! LOL Bill

Thanks for feedback fellahs. The problem i've found is the large flat surfaces are tricky to make convincingly rusterised. 1/35 scale is much easier to deal with. I've started my 1/16 T34, maybe that's going to be easier to rusterise.here's hoping!!!

Thanks guys for keeping me on this and not scrapping the hull.I've done a lot more and reckon I've got a handle on the problem! slowly it's coming together ..........I think. To be honest I'm sick of the sight of it now and I will do more on the T34. Anyhow here's some of the latest pics. Bill l

Great job on the rusty truck mate, how do you creat those lumpy bumpy bits, is just salt under the paint that hasn't disolved ?

hello robbo
It's pigments fixed with hairspray and then painted over. once the paint is dry I remove most of it with warm water and a touch of ipa. Then it's do it again and again until the layers have built up enough. problem is it's too easy to go too far and all is lost!!!!!! problem is I reckon I've just screwed it up. It might be back to the plastic.....again

After spending all weekend dithering about what to do I launched into a do-or-die,or should that be a do-or-strip the bugger again attack. I am happier than I was with the results so far. The olive drab looked too green and too dark for a well-weathered vehicle. I found that by wetting a small area at a time and then quickly brushing on IPA and then washing off with clean water ,once dried with the trusty hair drier the olive paint had lightened and looked just how I wanted. Serendipity again! Bill
