Hello out there Started my new project. A 1/16 scale M16 which is going to be one huge wreck!. Don't know yet how much of the guns etc are going to be left.....just make it up as I go along. Started with some of jackwagon's favourite....white card, the armour is too thick on the kit so it had to go. Bill

Thanks for the thumbs-up !! I've completed the engine but the reference photos I have of a firing range wreck doesn't have an engine. I like the look of that empty bay. the other end of this is going to be really busy with the turret still in place so it should look ok. Reckon I'll need a TON of pigments for this one!!!!!

Thanks guys. Been filing and grinding all the extra metal from the chassis rails and filling holes. Worst part of the kit, they should have made the rails from plastic...........on second thoughts I should have made the rails from plastic!!! oh dear might have dug myself a very deep hole!!!
LOL

Never thought of that jackwagon! I was going to part of the kids' inheritance to buy them! experimentation with the alternative sounds like a plan.

Yesterday I was reading in a book on the Bastogne battles. A meat chopper killed more than 100 Germans in a couple of seconds, while they were leaving their vehicles to start an attack.

I've got the cross-members and gusset plates fitted to one chassis rail. Heaps of nuts and bolts also fitted. I'm starting on the suspension units now.....wish me luck that everything lines up!!!

I managed to get some time off work to fight the good fight!! I didn't like the kit damper spring assemblies so I made those. Waiting now for the Gunpower book on the m3 so I can add more detail to the chassis. I think this post is in the wrong section as it is becoming more like a scratchbuild than the wreck it was intended to be. I still want to wreck it but it's got to be somewhere near correct first. Anyway are the pics which show the rear suspension etc. I'm working on the rear diff. housing which believe it or not is incorrect!!!! Never thought of myself as a rivet-counter but hell, this is a poor kit considering the scale. Bill

Well jackwagon they were carved from solid 25 inch thick solid styrene billet mate!!!!!! took some time believe me!!!!!!!!!!!
No I'm kidding.... round rod wrapped around a mandrel, boiling water poured over 'til soft and then quenched under running cold tap.
Robbo, thanks mate , I'll try!

I'm building the framework for the armour and I've decided to scratch the armoured body.... the kit parts are too thick. Finding details of the floor are proving to be a bit difficult but I'm getting there mate!!
