I've been really busy the last couple of days, so I could not check in, but I just need to be clear on something... Did T just pull the audio-visual equivalent of 'The dog ate my homework"?!

It was time to let some paint fly!!

First out of the box, I thought I would give Jose Luis Lopez's Black and White technique...somewhat.

First thing needed was a little shading





After shading there is a process of adding some weathering (yes, before the final paints) and picking out some highlights.







I had Vallejo's Desert War set in the stash and figured there are some great colors to play around with for this!



With Jose's process the top coloring goes over in a translucent manner to allow the weathering to show through a bit.









and finally, the top coat...



I went light as the filters and washes will darken as I go here. Also, I was able to get the tracks situated...so everything is looking ready to have a go at the weathering soon!!



That's it for the moment. Will hit the weathering bench throughout the week and see where things go!!

Leon - Thanks Buddy!! I thought it would be fun to try out Jose's process a little. I can see the real advantages to using this, especially with one or two layered paint application on top.

Andy - Thanks! It's really not so tough my friend. I did have to remember that during the black and white section, you don't need to be so particular in the applications of shading and highlighting as this all blend nicely under the top coats. If there is something you end up not liking as you paint the top color, just add a little more coverup to that section and it blends or goes away!!

Jeff, I backed off on the trigger to reduce the proportions of paint and air which worked fine; however, I did thin the top coat 30% or so allowing for a bit more transparency. Its about reminding myself that the shading and pre-weathering, if you will, does all the work and the thin layers of paint are not meant to cover anything but rather accentuate the shading levels.

Is it possible to provide some more on how the pre-weathering (scratches and such) are working? Get the shading, but the weathering under paint seems like it shouldn't work the same.

Hiya Ian!! Howz it goin'? Thank you Sir!!

Thanks Doogs! After a little shading just to basically give some panel fading, I AB'ed a thinned white lightly over the model surfaces lightly making sure not to cover the shading and trying to blend the two. I then used the Vallejo Model Color Off White and made scratches with a brush and chipping on various areas with a sponge followed with Black; sponging lightly over the white chipping. Then with the Black thinned with water a little (not a wash...more 1:4 water/paint) then applied darker stains to the bottom of the panels, streaking here and there and chipping and scratches. The streaking I feathered out with a brush humid with water just after application.

Sorry for the length here...then barely covering the shading I lightly spayed the darker desert base color, a mid tone and finally the top misting thinned coat. None of these layers are heavy enough to cover the white and black chipping 100%. Most take the coloring of the earth tones colors and will appear darker and light depending on the color beneath giving new levels to the scratches. I will add a couple more scratches here and there but not too much more. Not sure if this helped at all. Let me know!!

In an effort to keep this going here....Here is how things look after a quick filter!





Using Vallejo's Model Wash, Oiled Earth, I cut the was with water to make a filter which was applied to the entire model.



It is time to hit the bench and start adding washes and various weathered effects and then get this together for final weathering soon!!

I decided to add a little bit of stowage to the vehicle. Of course I needed to grab some Value Gear from the Stash!!





Off to prime and get started on some painting of the gear and , oh yeah, continue the weathering of the Bradley!!

Thanks Anthony!! It is a great little kit. As I mentioned in the review, there are a few things they could done differently, like the ERA's not being on solid block...but you know anything can be modified. The nice thing is the surface detailing including under the ERA is very nice including the anti-skid! A solid box of fun if you ask me!

Todd since I retired I have less time at the bench now . I know that it don't make any sense but that's how its worked out . Hopefully when the weather gets nice and nasty I'll be inside more . You guys are in for a hard winter I hear .
