I really don't know what to say. I sure as heck enjoy watching you build something out of nothing...I just am a little envious of both the motivation and execution to do something so ambitious...really make me feel like an "assembler" instead of a modeler...lol.

Jimmy to be honest I admire your paint work. I am trying to mimic it a bit with my current ways.
I have said in the past and continue to say, anyone can do what I do, most would do it much better.
For some this hobby seems to have limits. They never stray far from what is expected. I am just too stupid to know what my limitations are. I enjoy the challenge of trying to mimic the 1:1 subject. Do I ever get it right? Not really. I do enjoy the challenge though. I posted on another site that builds of this type are almost against the rules of model building. There are many who attempt the cutaway armor but only a handful really try to do a cutaway aircraft. And honestly it is addicting to do it.

I learned a while back that the best way for me to make my builds stand out is with finishing and weathering. I know very well what my limitations are...lol. My weakness (and I'll gladly admit it) is pushing my limitations. I'm terrified of screwing up. Not so much getting flak from the "counters" for not getting it right, but just screwing up with my clumsiness to a point where the build isn't salvageable. I'm getting more comfortable adding aftermarket of whipping up simple scratch pieces...maybe someday I'll be where you are, but at the moment I'm just trying to master depth and effect with the airbrush and finishing and weathering process. I also have a short attention span. By the end of a build I'm usually struggling to get to 100%. I don't think my lack of patience would allow such an investment of time haha. I love dioramas and always say "this kit will be the one that gets a diorama" but every single time I finish I end up moving on instead of putting work into the other stuff.

Well just to show I have not forgotten this build. I am progressing but quite honestly a snail would do laps around me at this point. To bring everyone up to speed.... -Lightening holes are finished. -Major details are nearly done. (Large rod sections) -Most small details are near complete including some "wiring" and mechanisms for flap cables. -Wheel well nearing completion. Pictures... I still have a bit to do to the wheel well and just a little more to the details on the wing framing. I need to fashion how the tip will fit in and how the whole wing will attach to the fuselage. Oh and the small detail that nothing is glued yet. Wow so much work for so little actual progress. BTW that is the fifth rendition of the wheel well. All comments, critiques, and criticism are encouraged. Joe

Looking great! This is going to be one impressive project. Man, how can you do this without loosing your mind?!??! You truly have my respect... looking great! That's what I'm wondering too. My hair would either be entirely grey or I'd be bald having pulled it out.

Awesome Joe! Always looking forward to the next installment
Joe, I'd love to see you take on Airfix's 1/24 Typhoon. With most of the interior already in the kit but eventually hidden away, I'd like to see how you would finish out the making the interior more visible as well as more of the fuselage interior behind the cockpit. It's big enough to add cabling and such.

Rick it definitely would be a cool project. Currently I have another five 1:24 birds in the stash as well as six or seven 1:32. I am thinking that I really like the way this building style works so I plan to have them all similar.

Many thanks guys.
Last night a milestone was passed. I glued the wing framing to the spar. This showed an issue so I had to come up with something to fix that. Hopefully the wing will be nearly complete by the weekend.

An Update: Well lookie here. NO PINS!!!!! Yep that is right. The pins are gone and the framework is glued. It is not finished but it is all one piece now. Now what is left. First I need to build up the framework for what I believe is a radiator. Also I need to figure out the attachment point for the landing gear. There you have it. Now for most this is not a big update, for me it is a big milestone. A first. I have a complete wing frame that I can move forward with. All comments, critiques, and criticism are encouraged. Joe

Productive day on the 1:24 109. Well it began last night with a start on the Wing Radiator. Then today I went through to try to get the radiator in the right spot, success. I then pulled it all together and thought why not, mock it up, see what it looks like. Well.............here it is.............. The wing radiator.. I ran into an issue with the well that the landing gear goes into. I had to redo it a bit. And now the way the wing looks at this point. It is not glued in but it is pretty stable. All comments, critiques, and criticism are encouraged. Joe

Well time to show the progress to this point. Wing construction, at least the major framework and such, is done. Two months of build it up and then tear it down is finished. Pictures. And now the overall. On the overall I can live with this. There is some work to be done yet. I have some of the frames to straighten and some clean up as well as finishing off the small details. I am certifiable. Two months on this wing. All comments, critique, and criticism are encouraged. Joe

Many, many thanks. You are both very kind.
Rick I have to say I do keep looking at your thread and thinking how that particular kit would be a great base for just a touch more interior showing. Heck the wings and fuse that I have seen so far are all intact you would not have to scratch hardly anything.

Well it has been two weeks. Some progress has been made. Finishing off the wing is proving to be a bit of a challenge. Every time I feel I am close I see more to do. Ahh well where it is at the moment. I have glued in the flaps and I changed the position of the spar on the fuse. It helped to straighten out the wing a touch. Still more little things to do but I have now moved forward to the next section. The tail. I wanted to show the framing of the rudder and the stabilizer. My attempts to scratch it out of styrene failed miserably. So I cheated a bit. Resin casts. The third attempt to make the casts was the winner. Not too many big airpockets and the resin set up nicely. After giving it a couple of days to harden I went to work with my drill, micro drill, files, and sand paper. The result. Next up will be to detail out the rudder and the stabilizer. I also want to tackle the landing gear. I have decided (not like I had much of a choice) to go with the kit gear. I want to make sure they are cleaned up and work with the framing. All comments, critiques, and criticism are greatly encouraged. Joe
