Wingy - remember the top one (the infamous "melted barrel" from several years ago at AMPS), but when did you do the whitewashed Marder?

Marc It seems as if you have become de facto organizer of this little build off, I've got a question. I do have the Tristar E/F kit. If you'd like to avoid doubling up of kits, I could do that one instead. Granted, it is, for all intents and purposes the same kit as Wing_nut's so maybe it doesn't really matter? Since I know on good authority that TRM's build will look VERY different than yours (think "wreck") it shouldn't be an issue. That, and we've already got a badge! Ahh, good point!

LOL... 321......number of G's built! 319 more people Boyd, and we can recreate the entire production line!!

Okie dokie...first update on my end. Got the chassis all glued up - took a while with all of the slab parts. Followed that up with all of the suspension bits. These were devoid of a "positive" fit like you'd find in a Tamiya or Dragon kit, so they took a bit of fussing to be sure that everything was level and at the right depth to mate up with the idler. Dry fit of the upper hull bits looks good - guess I got everything square! Next order of business before moving on to the interior (which is surprisingly comprehensive) and etch is to decide if I have enough openable hatches to make it worth the trouble. That's tomorrow's project.

Wow Marc good memory on the melted barrel. The Marder was done for an FSM group build " Marder Madness" in 2010. Most of the upper armor is brass like that half track I did a while back.
Your 38 is looking very nice. Good progress.

Ahhh right. That GB kicked off right as I started fading out from FSM...explains why I never saw the finished article.
In the Tristar kit, how many hatches/panels come with the ability to pose in the "open" position?

Hey guys... I just now ran across this. Is this an exclusive Group Build or can anyone join in? When does it end and what are the main rules?
I have a Panda Hobby kit in 1/16 that needs to be built and would like to join in if possible? I also want to reserve the right (time permitting) that towards the end I can scratch build it into one of the Marder versions? If not I still want to have 2 of these... one a 38(t) and a Marder as well.
Let me know. The kit is new and un-started.

SH*T Jeff!! Nice kit!! Hell yeah you are welcome to join in!! Things just got underway too!! Grip and rip!!
It sprang up so quick, we did not put an end date. I am sure we will know when the time comes. As for the rules we did not lay anything down in particular as this is a mass dueling of sorts. 38(t)'s galore! If memory serves correctly Dupes might have mentioned something about 38(t) variants but not sure....not too concerned to tell you the truth!! LOL!! Still a 38! Same rules that apply to all GB's for playing nice in the sandbox and the idea is to have fun and complete a model.
Bring on the building!!!

This one is going to start fast and end fast to avoid "GB drag". However we HAD discussed keeping it to "straight" 38(t)s versus adding all of the chassis variants (that will be a future GB almost guaranteed). So if you can stick with that then I would get crackin'.

I'll see where I'm at with the other builds that I have going on right now and decide if I want to go forward with just a 38(t) build now and leave the Marder for later. Jeff

Early release for the holiday weekend - home to work on this monster. Got all of the interior (plastic) bits prepped for the etch parts when I decided to do a fit test with the upper panels...no luck. The entire transmission is way oversized in one direction (up) and way undersized in the other (length). No way to make the cover fit.
Bottom line - no interior for me on this one...will save all the PE for another build. Good thing I test fit first!

I've got the same kit as T's in the stash. Unfortunately, prior commitments are going to keep me from joining in on this build. On a side note, I just saw where Tamiya just announced a 1/48 scale version (38(t)E/F) to be released in Feb.

I hope I don't get 'Brow Beatin' for this but I just had to share this picture I found of a Marder III (it's still a 38(t) tank) with a soft top for protecting the crew from the elements that I have never seen before. It just so happens to be my favorite of the Marder III series, the Panzerjäger 38(t) für 7.62 cm PaK36(r) Marder III Sd.Kfz. 139. I'm still debating if I want to build my 38(t) as is from the box and then by doing so, enter this Group Build! Jeff
