Unfortunately the timing wasn't right with the family for me to attempt a new year's day speed build, so we'll have to settle for a new year's weekend effort instead. Broke out the Tamiya Quad Tractor. A) It's Tamiya B) It's wheeled and C) I don't have any aftermarket for it. Should be a fast build! So I got to do a bit last night, got this far: And then this afternoon's efforts: Heading down to the paint booth to start firing some color! Unfortunately, this kit being as old as me (1974! ) there isn't much color info. Going to need to do a bit of research online which will slow me down a bit. More to come ASAP!

Thanks guys! This is NOT the same as the Italeri (Peerless Max) kit - that builds into a Chevrolet-chassis vehicle, while the Tamiya kit builds into a Ford-built vehicle. Awfully close, but not quite. Comparison pics here and here: www.scalemates.com/products/product.php?id=141041www.tamiya.com/english/products/35045guntractor/index.htmI'll click "refresh" and this one will have a completion post, but what the heck. I'll watch... We starting a pool on how many the Kitinator builds this year? I'd be interested to see how high that pool would go.

Great choice... pulling my chair in! How many cups of Starbuck coffee do you want me to bring too?

Thanks all you guys! Andy - ALL of the cups of Starbucks (skinny vanilla latte with one sweet and low). Going to be a late night catching up! So I had the in-laws drop by last night through this afternoon - threw a bit of a monkey wrench into the speed plans. Wanted to get the basecoat on so I could start detail painting this morning...that didn't happen. Doing my best to get back to where I want to be. Some research had to happen, as the Tamiya color refs are sketchy at best. Referred to some of Mike Starmer's work (a "noted expert on British armor"). He knows a lot more than I do, so I chose to believe him! Some excellent Tamiya colors mixes with commentary to be found here: www.network54.com/Forum/47208/thread/1252022924/The+complete+Mike+Starmer+Acrylic+Paint+Mix+DatabaseI started by mixing up batches of both BS 64 Portland Stone and BS 61 Light Stone (light stone is actually darker than portland stone, but whatever). Samples are here - unfortunately the white balance throws them off a hair. They're both substantially brighter than this: And both of them are in turn substantially lighter than Tamiya Desert Yellow XF-57 which is the recommended color (and I'm assuming what's on the box art). Decided to go with light stone, the one on the right. Marathon spray session, then you get this, which is where I'm starting the detail painting now: The detail painting callout for this kit are almost nonexistent - going to have to use some photo refs to try to figure out what should be what. More to come!

Good color. I've always liked this funny little truck. I'm not so crazy about the included stowage, however. You wrote that you weren't planning any aftermarket. But I still say that some resin bedrolls would be a step up for sure.

Thanks Andy!
John - I'm in the same boat...they're pretty "soft". Debating whether to use them or just leave them off altogether or try to scratch some replacements.

Alrighty - got the mickey mouse camo sprayed with 80/20 Tamiya NATO Black. Was a liiiiiittle bit chunkier than I wanted - should have gone 10 or 15% paint and started over. Was going to use the circle template to do hard-edged camo, but there were way too many irregular sections that would have been too hard to mask. Should I be surprised that I knocked off both mirrors while spraying? Probably not. The bottom pic is the closest color to what my eye sees the Light Stone as...which surprisingly is VERY close to the Tamiya box art color, but not the color that they show in their buildups (or color callouts). Gotta put down some future next in prep for decaling tonight.

The lack of a new years speed build not withstanding, this should still be done by now if you are planning the same pace as last year. Looks nice.

Don't worry sir - the competions will be coming fast and furious this year. Give me a couple days! Heck, last year I didn't put one up until more than two weeks in.

Leon - I think I like it too. Can't tell for sure from reference pics if it should be hard edged or not - so this will have to do!
