Can't wait to see how this shakes out. It's such a simpe scheme as far as Luftwaffe stuff goes, but it's really attractive.

I've always had a sort spot for tropical schemes. Despite the simplicity I just think the sand over blue looks cool. for some reason. Thanks for joining along! Laid down the black which revealed some scratches I hadn't seen with the primer, so once those repaired, re-primed, and re-blacked I got to the RLM 76. Gunze gloss black followed by Gunze 76. This is initial "marbling" which will be blended in further.

Man those gaps are frustrating - and I always hear that the F is the best of the Hasegawa 109s...

The only other one I've done is the G-6, but that was back when It was new...like 10 or so years ago (however long ago it was)...but I do not remember having many fit issues...
I never completely rule out user error, but yeah it sucked. I plan a non-trop F at some point...I'll go with the Trumpeter probably.

Looks like a solid foundation for the paint work to come Jimmy, looking forward to more on this one. Love the quote in your sig by the way...classic!

Haha...thanks, Bill. I have kind of been re-writing classic quotes and I know someone here has the Burke quote, so I kind of stole it for my own anti-rivet counter crusade. The next step in the paint process is fairly simple. I've experimented with varying shades of the base color some, and on this I thought about trying different shades to overlay such as browns and greys for some added weathering effect. However, I feel like what I'm doing with oils and such at a later stage covers things pretty well, so I'm keeping with the KISS method here. The base RLM 76 was thinned heavily - I don't measure ratios, and work on feel - but I'd guess 30:70 paint to thinner. The "marbling" is done with a wavy pattern; for the overcoat I like to keep the application flowing linear over the surface. Light coats are added to build up the desired effect. I won't add any more layers of paint to this, but you will notice after clears begin to fly that the contrast will become less pronounced. Ever build I struggle with leaving it more contrasting that I think is needed and end up loosing it a little more than wanted on the final product, but I'm hopeful with this build things will even out like I want since I've left it a little more pronounced than usual. Next up will be to tackle the masking and head on to the RLM 79.

Wow! Another fine showing Jimmy! Seems I missed a bunch of this one, but certainly caught up in time to see the best part...PAINTING!! Great coverage on this! I have a 190 yelling obscenities at me when I walk by it in the cave!! Something like this, makes me almost pull it out and finish it!! Noticed I said "almost" there? Keep up the excellent work!!

T, don't resist the voices in your head. No good can come from that. You can only resist the 109 urge for so long Dupes, It's a struggle for me for sure. This morning with fresh eyes I feel like I need to tone it down more, but I'm almost positive that at it's present state after everything that gets layered on top it's still going to disappear.

It was really a struggle for me to minimize the false starting and moving on mid build. It really takes a lot of discipline. I'm fighting the urge of cracking open a Sherman right now...first world problems...ugh.

I feel like I'm the king of false starts - but they rarely get beyond the cockpit/closing the fuselage.

I feel like I'm the king of false starts - but they rarely get beyond the cockpit/closing the fuselage. It happens. There's a difference between someone such as yourself who's actually finishing things...and what I was years ago being someone who'd stall out and move on at that 90% hurdle. If you're head/heart or whatever isn't in it you have no choice. Yeah...I'd love to see that F-4 and A-6 finished, but I get the concerns that led to moving on with those.

And the modeling gods said unto thee "yo, fool, what are you doing?" So I just realized I had wanted to paint and mask all the markings I have masking for then do the camo colors over them. I've found the Montex masking to be easier to do that way...and I didn't do it...oh well...looks like I'll be fighting the spaghetti monster on those...(stuff is flimsy). Anyway...got the RLM 79 down. This is Model Master enamel and after having not used any for the past three builds in lieu of Gunze and Tamiya...I have to say I think I'm starting to hate the stuff...oh well...it went down Next comes the white and RLM 04 and then the masking begins.

What the flip is an F-29? I could finish some of that stuff...or give you a therapy session to get you over the aircraft-finishing hurdle.

Looking good - and man do I hear you on enamels. Nowadays I only use them when I absolutely have to (which is never). One thing I've found is that adding a bit of Mr. Leveling Thinner to them makes them less prone to going all runny like they do w/ just enamel thinner or mineral spirits.

I was thinning it with the regular Gunze lacquer...thinking I didn't need the retarder for this. Still...it was just too runny or not thin enough not to spray splotchy. No in-between. I'm done with them.

Nice result with the paint work despite the fight it gave you along the way Jimmy. The pre-shading effects are definitely paying off with the contrast.

BRILLIANT paint job!!! I think I like you now... LOL Hehe...thanks That's been my whole aim in this! So I tried to deal with the Montex masks last night. Nope. I screwed up nothing doing them first. Frankly, they are perfectly workable if you work in reverse to what you'd think would be the appropriate sequence... That is lay down the colors you need masked first, use the innards of the mask to mask them off and build up from there. Basically working from the interior most portions out. I did this on the Ju88 and had virtually no problems and had I not let the vinyl sit on paint for months and eat it, things would have been awesome. Starting with the large portions of the masking and working in - these things are virtually impossible. I'm reluctantly going to use the decals and call it lesson learned I think.... Anyway...night wasn't a waste. I got the white ID bands on. Gunze Off White is a beautiful thing

Thank you, sir. The last round of Hasegawa decals I dealt with weren't too bad surprisingly, so I'm hoping for similar luck this time. We will see. I'm gonna beat this thing to heck anyway, so it won't matter....I'm just trying to get is moved aside for other things at this point... Hope you got the house clean and found some time to take care of some of those poor lingering builds on your bench.
