Right smart lookin The next mousetrap you'll want to watch for is the gun mount, which is almost a kit in itself and lovely. It's rather tricky to attach it to the turret I had quite the time with it Regards, Mark Thanks Mark! I was eyeing the turret/gun mount steps in the instructions earlier and came to a similar conclusion. Lots of intricate detail and parts go into it but only two relatively small connection points for it to all play nice together AND fit properly inside the hull roof opening and the interior bits. Going to have to be very patient in that department for sure.

Decided to have a little fun with the engine compartment and experiment a bit with weathering it up. I stippled some enamel Steel, Gunmetal, and Burnt Umber to varying degrees then added a light overall wash of Leather. After the wash had dried, I added some Mig Europe Dust pigment since it is a DAK vehicle and the compartment is open at the bottom...a sure way for dust/dirt to find its way in and mix with any grease/oil/fuel stains/spills, etc. to my way of thinking. Quick check with the engine has everything still looking like it all belongs together in the same space. I used a q-tip and thinner to clean up some of the previous red oxide over-spray on the interior and it left a kind of white residue...must've been something on the q-tip. No big deal as it will get over painted, I just didn't want to have any weird red shading peaking through in the process. Of course once the upper hull is on, 95% of it just becomes background even with creative viewing/angles...I suppose a dentist mirror might show up a little more if you were so inclined! Now I can turn my attention to the interior bits beyond the engine compartment divider.

Engine area looks really good Bill. You're definitely going to have to leave some hatches open to show off some of that work.

Puurrrrfection. Under normal circumstance it may take a mirror and a flashlight to get a good glimpse, but things are fairly open relatively speaking (assuming you leave hatches open...so some very appropriate time spent I'd say.

As snug as the engine compartment is, buttoning in up would be a shame. Especially with the level of work that went into it. Dave

Hey there, Bill : ))) The model is taking a very good shape, man, you are putting a lot of effort inside the vehicle, ol' school die-hard sweating: "even if it cant be seen... I paint & detail it" Thumbs up ! and just to add some atmosphere & pace... Panzer rollen in Afrika vor ! Pan-zer ro-llen in A-fri-ka vor !! Later, Jelly

Thanks Bob and Jimmy! After looking at the reference pics I'm going to at least have the rear armored cover hinged open. The top and side ones I may leave removable but not necessarily posed open...have to see what works best when I get to that area. Dave, never fear, I'll find a way to show some off at least! Jelly, thanks for the support and the 'tune' as well! You're right about the 'at least I know it's there' aspect...but I'm enjoying it all the same for this particular project. Andy, oh there's so much more yet to come on this little baby...I doubt I would call it a breeze just yet. Still have to add all the fighting compartment interior stuff, the gun mount, etc. before I even start on the outside details and such! For example, I just ordered some Ultracast MG34 ammo boxes since there are 11 PE holders for them around the inside...HB provides the PE for the holders but no boxes to go in them...so I have to rectify that little situation for sure!

Dupes and DR, appreciate the kind words and will do my best to show off, in one way or another, as much as possible! This is just the first phase...so much more detail to come on this bad boy. Robbo, nice to see you pop in my friend! Good to see you and thanks for the comments.

Glad to have you along. , well I'm probably going to build a T34/1940 for the up coming group build, but also want options. Going thru my stash, I found several German tanks, but I did find one Tamiya 222 that caught my eye. It had lots of A.M. stuffed inside the box. It's set aside for a DAK build. The H.B. kit is better, but didn't like the rubber tires. I honestly would have been better off with a DAK group build! I'd just hate myself for using a PzKw IIIG for a eastern front build! I did also find several bf109e's, but they are all Tamiya's, and plan on getting rid of them. As for the T40 tank, I'll build a couple. That tank seriously interests me. gary

One of the challenges of doing this build is deciding when and where to paint and install things, so the latest effort focused on the hull interior to get it ready to take the various details that populate the area forward of the engine compartment. First I masked off the floor and airbrushed Panzer Gray and let that sit for a day before masking it off and then airbrushing some MM enamel Panzer Interior Buff. The side hull doors were painted separately and are dry-fit only at this point since they will be posed open later on. I also painted the side hull braces and small storage boxes that sit next to the rear floor hump and then installed them after all the painting was done. It's important to make sure that the angled braces line up properly with the top part of the hull as there's a bit of play in their placement, so I made small adjustments on either side where needed with a test fit to take care of that little detail. That will get a chance to cure up as well before I start in on weathering the interior prior to adding in all the various detail bits that populate the hull sides and other areas. Quite a bit is visible through the turret ring and of course the mesh deck that will get added later as well. One step forward at a time!

Looks like it could be on a showroom floor at the moment. I'm sure you're gonna bang it up some though. Coming along nicely. This ones a lot like a wingy build. Lots of painting along the way.

Jimmy, before it can be weathered and dirty it must be clean and smooth! Definitely isn't going to stay in its current condition. You're right, haven't done this much inter-build painting in a looong time. Thanks Leon and Andy!

Thanks Bob! Now the real fun begins in terms of populating that interior and making sure nothing goes wrong in the process. Very tight space tolerances all around on this little guy.

Todd, more like a candle vs. a torch but doing my best to keep it lit! Thanks Tobi and Richard! Dave, isn't going to take much to fill up this particular interior...even though HB left out some of the details here and there, I think they had to make some compromises just to ensure there was enough space for everything to go together!
