Only 39? Slacking off a bit this year, aren't you, Dupes? Well there is still 2 weeks to go, I've got faith you'll pull out 3 or 4 more.

Dupes: That's one of my fav's of yours for this year! 2nd in the winged category, behind your Hellcat. The camo' has a subtleness to it that I like...but at the same time, it pops too! The panel lines add a nice depth to it...did you use the black spray tracing technique?
The decals look like they settled in nicely, great work!
Any chance you could post another pic' with a scale reference next to it? I know 1:72 for tanks but I'm not so good with aircraft.

Scale reference? Sure! You're going to be surprised...the 109 is a VERY small aircraft. Let me whip something off after dinner.

Wow...another impressive addition.
You know what you need to do? Once you get your full lineup for the year, we need a special "Model of the Dupes" vote so we can select the fan favorite.

Hahaha...I'm not sure the system will handle a 40-plus voting table! But I could certainly try.

SMJ - in answer to your first question, no - it's just a sludge wash. I haven't had good luck with the post-shade on things this small. Speaking of small, here's the pic you requested:

1st guy,"I can save 15% with GEICO."
2nd guy, "Everybody knows that."
1st guy, "Yeah... Did you know Dupes posted a finished build?"
2nd guy, "Dude, that's not news."

Hi Dupes
I've just found this thread and what can I say but RESPECT!!
39 models in a year and as everyone else says, to such a great standard. It's an amazing, amazing, achievement and not just because of the number of kits, which is mind-boggling in itself.
There's the fact that I don't think I've seen anyone else do such a diverse range of model types across pretty much the whole scale spectrum since coming back to to the hobby.
And then there's the build and paint quality....
Your Sd.Kfz.251/22 has a great level of detail at 1/72 and your Flakpanther Coelian has that quality of paint job that almost makes me forget I'm basically looking at a lump of plastic and not the real thing.
Very well done!!
Andrew

There's the fact that I don't think I've seen anyone else do such a diverse range of model types across pretty much the whole scale spectrum since coming back to to the hobby. Thanks Andrew! It's funny, when I got back into it it was almost 100% armor. Then I started to veer back toward aircraft a bit (since that's what got me into modeling in the first place as a kid). Didn't really like a lot of the sci-fi kits that were available out there until I found Fine Molds and the Star Wars resin garage kit community. That opened up access to all KINDS of other resin goodies like Battletech and Ma.K...now I can't get enough of it! Going to IPMS shows and seeing what was entered in various categories made me branch out into other scales in each genre...the neverending spiral. Luckily I have a very supportive wife and soon-to-be-building boy. Thanks again for the kind words. Stuff like that keeps you motivated!

So I wanted to try to do something a bit different for number 40...here you go! Little back story - I'm not a car guy. At ALL. In the past at shows I've spent about zero combined hours looking at the various offerings. Flash forward to this past spring when I got asked to judge the car categories! I, as usual, took a look at the entries and said to myself, "dude, you can do better than this!". I've always found the GT and rally cars to be a lot more interesting than regular street machines (or Nascar...don't get me started on Nascar) so I went with an elder Tamiya offering - kit 24102 - that I picked up cheap somewhere. What I learned along the way: Car modeling isn't like other modeling. At all. Seriously. You can't see jack in a car interior no matter how many windows there are. You can't see jack all the work I put into the engine. I should just get a gallon bucket of future to dunk builds in rather than spraying 100 coats. Photographing glossy-as-hell models is hard! I WILL be trying this again. Dammit.

dupes: A car?!...a definite surprise. What next, figures & busts!? That's a shame that the hood doesn't open to show-off all the additional hard work. What I'm seeing sure looks good though...I mean REALLY good! Your work around the windows is crisp/ tight, the decals (that alone keeps me away form race cars) look great and the finish has a kick-butt shine to it! Did you use future or just a glossy paint? Nicely posed pic's too...she's a real looker

Leon - thanks! Tojo - I'll take that! SMJ - hahahaha. I know, right? Figures and busts...that might be a tall ask. Let me see what I can do. Oh, and in answer to your question - just future. Lots and lots of coats of future. Because of the copious amounts of future, the decaling was quite easy even though I used the (thick as usual) Tamiya kit decals. To be honest, it's all the decals/logos (along with the racing mods) that attract me to these cars!

Thanks again for the kind words. Stuff like that keeps you motivated! Dupes How do you do it!?!?!?!?!?!? Can you please, please, ease off a bit??? I'm feelng very inadequate at the moment, what with you and SMJ!!! Also, can you PM me your phone number so my wife can talk to yours about what it's like to live with such a prolific modeller and understand the coping mechanisms and strategies she uses?? She is very tolerant and understanding but, as I 've said more than once before, my return the hobby has been a bit of shock to her. As for your son getting modelling, having both my son and daughter involved does make it something special - although we're only working with QB kits, the look on their faces when the model is finished and they know they've helped build it is a wonderful sight!! Keep up the good work PS the car is great by the way!!

Ease off? NEVER!!! I just told my wife what you said...her reply was, "you're home. And it's cheaper than bars and hookers". Nuff said? Hahahahhahaha. Believe me, SMJ has that effect - wait until you see him start weathering that beast! Yeah, I'm a couple of years off of getting him to do any modeling, but I'm sure it will rub off.

Thanks Bill! It sure is shiny...my next trick will be to replicate an in-use rally car. Boyd - after that judging session I told myself I would enter a car category at Downeastcon. I had to build it! The problem is, I picked up a couple of other kits too. Marc - "Hot Wheels"! That reminds me, I need to see if my 2 year old is into that yet. Cheap and fun! As far as F-1 cars go, I'm assuming that'll be 1/20 scale. Any idea why those are 1/20 versus the "usual" 1/24 or 1/25 the other car kits come in? Oh, and Spitfire? What Spitfire?

Unfortunately (or more probably very fortunately, at least for my liver and wallet), I've never, ever acquired a taste for alcohol - odd I know but I just don't like it - this means I can't use the first of your wife's option to justify my modelling. As for the second justification, let's not even go there...... I've had another proper look at the car and the shine effect is fantastic. How did you achieve it?

Repeated heavy coats of future. It wasn't actually 100 coats, but probably close to 20 under and over the decals. I wasn't kidding when I said I need to get a gallon bucket to just dip the next one I do into!

I used to play with hot wheels for hours and hours with 2 friends. WOW what a rush of memories. 1/20 v. 1/24 or 1/25? No more clue than 1/35 v. 1/32 (or the other way 'round... chicken/egg thing ) The Eduard Mk.VIII that was recently found after being misplaced has been calling to me in the night. Sometimes I can hear the sprues rattling together from inside the box. Creepy.

...my next trick will be to replicate an in-use rally car. Now your talkin' my language!!! That idea would almost make me be willing to go through the torture of adding all the decals: 20!?!?! coats of future?...please tell me you're still exaggerating that a bit. Did you at least thin it or is that straight up!? I'd think with that many coats the mirrors would be like little nubs poking out of "Lake Future"

Scaling - thought you might be a closet car guy and know why the F1 cars aren't in 1/24 like all of (at least Tamiya's) the other race cars. Spit - "misplaced"? How do you lose an Eduard Mk.VIII??
