Best to try out first on a dried out flesh tone where you mix your paint and not directly on the figure! That way you can control how much is needed...thought I better add that one in!

From a distance he is looking great Oli, and wearing glasses? Is that PE you used for them? I hope to see some other shots of the figure...daylight will be your best friend I think!

yeahh he is wearin glasses... ;-) yap it was part of a pe fret in a royal model german wwii soldier upgrade kit... ( Upgrade kit) yes the dio is now sitting onmy workbench at the part where i do not have a lamp installed... so i have to bend the main workbench light so that it shines to the dio... thats not optimal, i know... also although i was really close to the subject with my camera it is still to far away... tomorrow i will make some shots of the figure alone in daylight... slowly i am getting the grip of it... but only when you look at the figures from some distance... what should be ok, because in scale you just depict something bigger looked at some distance... i think in 1/35 you say your looking distance in real world would be about 10 - 15 meters? ? still some details and some weathering of the boots have to be made... but the reading guy is near finish...

Oli, They are looking really good mate!! You are definitely on the right track with your figures...They are way way better than my first efforts! You can always add extra highlights etc along the way, it's all a matter of trying out what best works for you. Did you use a pale grey or off white for the eyes? A little hard to see from the photos...plus I'm surfing on my Iphone, everything is small scale on my end lol Really good effort mate they will compliment your dio in a big way! Shay

thanks all for your smart words... i consider the figures now as done.. :-)
i used some sort of off white for the eyes, in fact it is the same color as used as the second highlight for flesh in the lifecolor flesh color set... :-)
with some figures i have to go over the eyes a little bit... but now i can move on to the next tasks..

Looks good to me! I'm used to working in 1/24th, and faces are tough enough in that scale. The smaller scale makes your work even more impressive.
On figures that I really want to get right, I've found it necessary to stop periodically and take close up photos with the digicam, then review them, blown up on the computer, before progressing further. I don't always do it but generally regret it when I don't.

thanks mrversatile and ray for your kind words...
taking close ups with the digi cam shows you really all your "mistakes" you have done or the missing brush you should have done... but sometimes it makes you feel worse looking at the blown up images... ;-)

Hi Oli, We all strive to get our figures looking perfect, nothing wrong with that at all! I have the same problem though, the amount of times that I have a figure near completion then all of a sudden I see a seam line that hasn't been taken care of..#%$€%!! We could really enlarge our figures digitally to the point of infinity and mistakes and brush strokes would still be seen. If it looks good to the naked eye, for me that is enough..I understand you want this to be satisfying to yourself and to others to view but I'm pretty sure even Beethoven had his critics too! Keep up the good work my friend, you are experimenting with so many details for this diorama and you should be proud of what you have achieved so far! Enjoy your Thursday evening mate, roll on the weekend!!

as always so kind words from you shay... problem is, you see so many artful works done by all these modelers outside in the wilderness... and then you are setting your own standards so high without rethinking, that all these beast modelers are counting on yeas of experience... that experience i do not have and just trying to gather right know...
sometimes you have to get this to your mind again and take the result as it is, go further and try to improve your next work, before you are standing in front of something that is never finished because setting own standards too high...
the next works are getting better or even worse, but thats the way we are learning... and that's totally ok...
and all the motivating comments and critics you get here just drive you a step further as thought... ;-)
have a nice last day before weekend tomorrow shay...

Hey Jason, on Friday 13th I have to ask where is Jason Vorhees (I have sculpted an 1:24er Jsson for a fried several years ago so...).
Coro, love the whole project! Would be too big for myself to do something like this, but I admire folks who could do it. The vegetation is brilliant, I love such stuff (use only laser cut plants, Pe parts, Reality in scale, Mininatur and sculpted stuff for my, more or less, wild bases) and dig it! The figures are cool, my fav is the dude with the bible. The face, hell, is this a hornet head? From which set?? All in all great work. Sure, you are right, there are always ways to improve the work but I think, there must be a point where to stop and say. thats it, I am satisfied to a point and good this way. I made the big mistake in my modeling "career" that I always wanted to rank amongst the best in the field, like Andrea Jula, Pietro Balboni, folks like them. And don´t forget, time changes the hobby! In former times, doing all lightning was done with drybrushing! Verlinden ruled till those spaniards came up with acrylic paint and new styles. We have to learn every day IF WE LIKE TO DO SO! To be really comfortable with all things we do here is, in my eye, the fun factor. I am happy now with the things I do and how they look! Improving is tomorrow, what counts is the work NOW!

hey shay hope you did it through whole friday the 13th without harm... ;-) i managed to cut my hand today... :-) yes frank, that thing went big... and i must admit, maybe to big for my first dio... cause you have to do so much to fill the whole space. and if its just some old leaves rotting in the grass with some fallen old branches of the tree... i replaced all heads of the figures with hornet heads. the kit heads were, hhm how should i say, a little bit loveless sculpted in my eyes... missing some expression... the heads i used were: Hornet Heads used (i have no special connection to the linked shop, that were just where i ordered them...) i did look a lot after aftermarket parts for my vegetation. some of them look really good but also there are some that just look okay. and with these parts i think it must be improvable. i try using some real nature parts, but i do not have any experience how long these materials will last or if i get some nasty bugs or similar onto the dio. time will show. but also it takes some time to find the right plants which could be used in that scale, most of the plants or parts of it are just simple off scale and too clumsy... you do not want to know how much money i already spend in flowers and plants just realizing that the planned parts of that plant on the dio are off scale... though i do not have a green thumb i give the unused plants a neighbour downstairs... she already smiles when she sees me coming home with some new plants... ;-) yes, at some point you have to stop working on some specific figure, vehicle or topic... you could forever paint it, strip paint and repaint it... but i think improvement comes with different figures, vehicles or situations where you have to adopt your learned techniques or alter your way to reach your goal. and every time you do something you improve your skill in that technique... but i think it is no mistake try to reach the ranks of your shining heros... it is a mistake to think to reach this level of experience in a short period of time. you have to realize that it will take it's time, but it is possible to get near that level or even over it... so keep on looking at your heros and try to be as good as they are. so but tonight i have some little update. i did some detailing paint work on the figures. but these were so small that it was not worth taking pictures of it. ;-) but i also tried to weather my panzer grey flak scheinwerfer and it's trailer... first i struggled with it... but then i tried to fade the panzer grey with the use of oils... tomorrow i will take some more better images...

The Sd. Anhänger looks good in my eyes. Love the contrast on it, all details stand out, what to want more? As for the plants, maybe I will do some making of plants in the sculpting bench (might not be realistic plants, more the SF way, but one can take this techniques for doing whatever he want to do I think!

Looking good Oli, can't help out with the trailer...AV stuff isn't my forte!! Friday didn't go so well, the police turned up in the evening to say they found belongings from us...turns out our car was broken into on our drive way during the week. We didn't notice anything...Garmin GPS gone, a leather jacket and some other personal belongings. Our neighbour was also broken to. Our dogs barked the night in question but I didn't get up. Luckily for the people who did it that I didn't wake up...not much gets away from a blast from a .303!!!

Thanks Oli and Frank! I can't go to much into the weapon thingy.... As for the dogs, we have a fox terrier that is only good at ankle biting and our other dog is one that was rescued from a killing station in Spain...unfortunately they are all sound and no bite!lol I'm a firm believer in karma, it will only be a matter of time until they are caught!!
